    Swiatek 4-6 2-6 Cornet

Swiatek was on a 37-match winning streak. That is history now.

What a brilliant performance by Alize Cornet. The top seed made a lot of unforced errors - 32 in total - but the French world number 37 did not let her own game slip for a second.

Can you believe it? You'd put your house on Iga Swiatek winning Wimbledon here this year. Unquestionably the in-form player in world tennis right now.

But it's over, all winning streaks must come to an end.

Three times Alize Cornet has beaten a current world number one, including upsetting Serena Williams in the third round here at Wimbledon in 2014.

She is so very, very close to another huge shock at SW19 once again today.

It’s difficult to see Iga Swiatek’s expression under her cap and she’s not giving much away in her body language, but she must be feeling the pressure now. Her hopes are hanging by a thread.

  5. Swiatek broken a third timepublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

    Swiatek 4-6 2-5 Cornet*

Absolutely unbelievable. Swiatek has not lost a match since February but she has been broken three times in this second set.

Cornet, who is 32 and ranked 37th in the world, will serve for the match next.

    *Swiatek 4-6 2-4 Cornet

Nothing is going right for Swiatek now. She frames a routine smash which almost hits Cornet behind the baseline.

That's 15-30... another mistake leaves her in a massive hole at 15-40.

Alize Cornet is in the zone, we know she's a proven giant killer, we know she's stepped out on the big occasions against the big players. But now she's got another world number on in her sights.

    *Swiatek 4-6 2-4 Cornet

Um, things are not getting any better for Swiatek. If anything, she is getting wilder than before. Even when the point looks like it is hers, Cornet finds a shot from nowhere to win it... and she does exactly that to hold here, with a brilliant lob to seal the deal.

  9. Swiatek is broken againpublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

    Swiatek 4-6 2-3 Cornet*

Wow. Cornet takes the break, and in style... stepping in to despatch a winner down the line. Swiatek needs to find something very special to come back from this.

    *Swiatek 4-6 2-2 Cornet

Uh-oh. More trouble for Swiatek. A host of horrible mistakes leaves her at 0-40.

Beautiful! Shot of the day? Quite possibly. Alize Cornet delighted the Court One crowd with that stunning drop shot on her way to breaking back in game three. They don’t come much better than that.

Huge frustration for Iga Swiatek. Cornet is proving a real problem and the crowd are growing increasingly appreciative of her efforts.

  12. Postpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

    *Swiatek 4-6 2-2 Cornet

Swiatek has the greater power, but Cornet has far more poise out on Court One at the moment. She is bouncing around non-stop between every point but steadies herself when it matters. She holds to love and is level in this second set.

  13. 'See you next year'published at 17:17 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

  14. Cornet breaks backpublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

    Swiatek 4-6 2-1 Cornet*

Just when you thought the tide had turned, Cornet comes up with a couple of crackerjack shots. That drop volley was amazing, but she followed it up with a stinging backhand winner off the Swiatek serve to seal the instant break-back. It landed plum on the baseline. Incredible stuff.

  15. Postpublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

    *Swiatek 4-6 2-0 Cornet

Cornet has hit some cracking drop-shots today, but none better than the drop-volley she just pulled out of the hat to take Swiatek's serve to deuce. She is still asking the world number one plenty of questions here.

    Chris Peddy

There's a loud roar as home favourites Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram take the second set and a 2-0 lead out on court 12.

There's huge support for the Brits in the near full stands. Win this third set and it's job done, on to the next round.

    *Swiatek 4-6 2-0 Cornet

Cornet's serve shows a few cracks for the first time today, as Swiatek hits the comeback trail.

At 15-40, she saves one break point with a well-placed forehand but her next groundstroke is wild and very long.

Alize Cornet was impatiently stalking the back of the court as she waited for Iga Swiatek to return for the start of the second set. She doesn’t want anything to slow her momentum here.
