This is it then for Heather Watson.

Win this game, and her hopes of making the last eight will be reignited. Lose, and her best ever Wimbledon run is over.

Will there be any late nerves from the young German Niemeier here?

    Norrie v Paul

    Jonathan Jurejko
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Shortly before he started the British grass season, Cameron Norrie told an amusing anecdote when I asked him about how he would deal with the increased scrutiny which the home players receive during Wimbledon.

"I was sitting in a restaurant recently, at the bar, and the bartender goes to me 'do you watch much tennis?'" said the British men's number one.

"I was in dressed in my casual clothes and said 'I watch a little bit'.

"He said 'you look exactly like this player, Cameron Norrie'.

"I was, like, 'Oh really, OK'. I played along, didn't say anything and on the way out I said 'I am Cameron Norrie'. He couldn't believe it."

It is unlikely the same bartender will make the same mistake after world number 12 Norrie finally cracked the last 16 of a Grand Slam.

We know how Heather Watson is going to play, she is a battler, fights for every point, she's a great defender.

But Jule Niemeier is so young and inexperienced and now she's serving for the match. She's only just really broken into the top 100. This is a massive moment, Centre Court for a place in the quarter-finals for the first time.

    Ram/Salisbury 4-6 Matos/Vega Hernandez

Men's doubles top seeds Rajeev Ram, of the United States, and Britain's Joe Salisbury have work to do in their third-round match as they have just lost the opening set against the pairing of Rafael Matos and David Vega Hernandez.

Ram and Salisbury were broken in the ninth game of the set with Matos and Vega Hernandez holding their serve in the next game to move one set ahead.

When it's right Heather Watson accelerates up and into that serve, it's so much better when she just makes that total commitment to it.

    Watson 2-6 4-5 Niemeier*

A beautiful cross-court forehand winner from Niemeier as she sprints towards the middle leaves Watson flumoxxed.

She takes the next two points though, and is given the opportunity to hold when Niemeier edges a forehand too long of the baseline.

Watson holds as her opponent finds the net. Niemeier to serve for a place in the Wimbledon last eight.

  7. Norrie's journey so farpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 3 July 2022

    Norrie v Paul

Norrie had fairly smooth sailing in his first and third round matches, but had to fight back from two sets down against Spain's Jaume Munar in the second round.

After defeating Steve Johnson in straight sets on Friday, Norrie now faces another American - Tommy Paul.

Paul is ranked 32nd in the world - 20 places below Norrie - and is also playing in the singles fourth round of a major for the first time.

    *Watson 2-6 3-5 Niemeier

A huge forehand from Watson is much more what this crowd came to see, and she backs that up with a backhand that Niemeier can't connect fully with.

Niemeier pulls herself back into her service game though, before more slick play at the net brings up her first opportunity to hold.

She does so as Watson pushes a return wide. Watson will serve to stay in the tournament.

  10. Home crowd helps Norriepublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 3 July 2022

    Norrie v Paul

British number one Cameron Norrie is about to play in the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time.

Both he and opponent Tommy Paul are waiting in the bowels of Court One to step out in front of the crowd. Norrie is taking the opportunity to practise a few backhands.

The ninth seed has managed to fly under the radar a bit this year given Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu had most of the limelight in the early stages.

But he's one of the last Brits standing and says the home crowds have given him a boost.

"When you've got the momentum and everything is going your way, it can help," he said.

"On the flip side of that, if I was down in the score, they can bring me through it. I'm trying to use it to my advantage as much as I can."

It sounds like the crowd are up for the challenge as those who haven't popped out for a drink or a snack in between matches give Norrie a warm welcome when he walks out.

It's packed on the Hill with spectators urging Heather Watson on. There are "oohs" and "aahs" as the partisan crowd follow every point on the giant screen.

It looks like it might be slipping away for Watson though as she aims to make the Wimbledon quarter-final for the first time.

    Watson 2-6 3-4 Niemeier*

    Harry Poole
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

The crowd were rallying behind Heather Watson as she fell 0-40 down, aware this could be the fatal blow to the Briton's hopes.

"Come on Heather" are the calls as she rescues the first, but a double fault is greeted by groans around Centre Court.

It's already been a significant tournament for the 30-year-old, finally reaching the third round at her 42nd attempt, but it looks as though a first major quarter-final could prove a step too far today.

    Watson 2-6 3-4 Niemeier*

It's a painful game for Heather Watson, two forced errors and a double fault gifting Jule Niemeier three break points.

Watson fends off the first, forcing the German into an error on the backhand, but another double fault from the Brit sees Niemeier break again.

    Centre Court is silent.

    *Watson 2-6 3-3 Niemeier

A fantastic touch from Watson at the net bags her the first point, and she celebrates with a double fist pump. The Centre Court crowd liked that, and even more so her next drop shot on the very next point.

But from there, she nudges a forehand too long and cries "nooo" as another spins well wide.

This time, it's Niemeier's turn for some great play at the net, a backhand volley landing mere millimetres from the top of Watson's racquet as she reached for it. A Neimeier mistake takes us to deuce, and she squanders her first advantage. She's handed a second by a Watson forehand into the net, and holds with an ace - her fourth of the day.

We're still on serve on Court Three in the men's doubles third-round match between top seeds Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury against Rafael Matos and David Vega Hernandez.

American Ram and Britain's Salisbury had a chance to claim a break in the sixth game of the first set but could not take it.

    Maria 5-7 7-5 7-5 Ostapenko

Women's 12th seed Jelena Ostapenko is out.

She was in the ascendancy in the second set, with two match points.

But Germany's Tatjana Maria, 34, fought back control and took that set, then the third to claim victory and seal her place in a Grand Slam singles quarter-final for the first time.

The world number 103 says there are "no words for the amazing crowd" on Court One, adding: "I just said, 'ok they belive in me so I believe in me'."

The crowd gives another cheer as Maria starts talking about her two daughters, who she took breaks from tennis for previously.

"It makes me so proud to be a mum - that's the best thing in the world," she says. "I love my kids. To be able to do it together... It makes it really special."

    Watson 2-6 3-2 Niemeier*

Watson wins the first point but can't do much for the second, jumping and flailing at a Niemeier lob that lands just inside the baseline.

There are groans as Watson goes too low as she tries to lift the ball over the net from close range, but she levels on the next point. She shows more frustration though, firing the ball off court when the point has already been won...

She vocalises her relief when Niemeier concedes on the backhand, but lands a forehand between the tramlines for deuce. Then, Niemeier fails to return a Watson serve, and the British number four soon holds.

Men's 23rd seed Frances Tiafoe has got things back on track on court two.

The American wins a break at the perfect time to go 6-5 up in the second set against Belgian David Goffin and holds to level things at one set each.
