If this men's doubles semi-final goes to a deciding set, Matthew Ebden could play eight sets of tennis today.

The Aussie teams up with compatriot Sam Stosur in the mixed doubles final later.

That's due on Centre Court after the women's singles semi-finals finish. Ebden is potentially not going to get much rest between the matches as things stand.

That is such a punishing backhand from Elena Rybakina - no holding back, terrific technique, great shoulder turn, terrific bold step forward into her shot.

There was good, warm applause for Halep as she saved that break point and finally got on the board. The ball just hasn't sounded right coming off her racquet compared to the absolute thud that it makes from Rybakinas's.

Great battling from Simona Halep, though. The two-time major winner holds on and turns the game around to get on the scoreboard as Elena Rybakina strikes long.

That could very well have been the first set done and dusted if she'd surrendered a second break there.

Simona Halep is quite a lot smaller than a lot of her opponents but she continually puts pressure on the server, she's returning 81% of her serves, that is a lot of pressure.

Rybakina is a deceptively powerful player. She makes it all look easy and effortless and it's drawn murmurs out of the crowd on Centre Court. Far too scrappy from Simona Halep first up.

Elena Rybakina will have been dreaming of a start like this last night.

There are ways to save match points - and then there's this.

Rajeev Ram slams a return right at Max Purcell at the net - and it hits the frame of the Aussie's racquet to bounce away for one of the luckiest winners you'll see. No strings attached.

Can Ram and Salisbury recover from that blow?

It is lovely on Centre Court; warm, sunny, the slightest of breezes.

Elena Rybakina has already made a piece of history by becoming the first Kazakh player to reach a major semi-final.

However, she faces a player in Simona Halep who is a former champion here and who, frankly, has absoutely blasted her way through her past two tricky matches against Paula Badosa and Amanda Anisimova.
