  8. Bringing eyes to the sport?published at 11:03 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

    Kyrgios/Kokkinakis v Ebden/Purcell

You can never accuse Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis of not being entertaining - back-chatting, finger-flipping, fist-bumping, umpire-baiting and final-making, the Aussie pair are a gripping watch, however that may come.

And Kyrgios, who has played some excellent tennis alongside his misdemeanours, says he wants to entice new fans to the sport.

"If they flick on a match and they have Thanasi and I playing in an entertaining doubles match, they know nothing about tennis, if they watch that match just then, they probably would tune in next time," he said.

"That's what I'm about. That's what I want to bring. I think that's how the sport is going to survive."

I think Nick is a lot calmer on the doubles court and they've done such a phenomenal job.

I have never seen such a crowd for doubles - kids - it's just entertainment we don't really see on the doubles court.

To gain so many fans - it has been super special and I love it.

    Kyrgios/Kokkinakis v Ebden/Purcell

Talking of entertainment, Nick Kyrgios - and now by association Thanasi Kokkinakis - has had a Netflix crew following him around this tournament for a behind-the-scenes style documentary.

Kokkinakis said earlier in the tournament the pair liked the crowd "the rowdier the better", and is it this particular Aussie duo who get the "siuuuus!" on their way out on Rod Laver Arena.

"I think people have just got to be open," said Kokkinakis. "You’re always trying to develop a sport and grow a sport.

"Of course, you got to keep it within the boundaries. If people are so narrow-minded they can’t see this is bringing a lot of fans and a lot of eyes, I think that is their problem."

  18. 'This is a dream come true'published at 10:43 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

    Barty 6-3 7-6 (7-2) Collins

Ash Barty continues: "To my team, wow! I have said numerous times I am so lucky to have so many people here who love and support me.

"Mum, dad and my sisters, I am an incredibly fortunate and lucky girl to have so much love in my corner.

"No one has changed in our team, we are the best in the business and I can't thank you for all the time you put into me.

"As an Aussie the most important part of this is being able to share it and you guys have been nothing short of exceptional. This crowd is one of the most fun I have ever played in front of - you relaxed me and forced me to play my best tennis! Against a champion like Danielle I had to bring that today."

"This is a dream come true to me and I am so proud to be an Aussie, so thank you so much everyone - we will see you next time!"

  19. 'I'm a little bit stumped'published at 10:41 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

    Barty 6-3 7-6 (7-2) Collins

And here is what Ash Barty had to say following her famous victory:

"Thank you everyone so much, I have to say congratulations to Danielle, it has been an amazing fortnight for you, I know you will be fighting for many more of these in the future.

"I am a little stumped, I would love to thank everyone who does so much work behind the scenes - it takes a real big village to put on an event like this, this tournament has been one of my favourite experiences, so thank you so much for that.

"To all the umpires, ball kids, everyone who makes it so easy for us players to do what we do - you guys makes it seamless and without you we'd be lost!"

  20. How Barty is inspiring young Aussiespublished at 10:38 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

    Jonathan Jurejko
    BBC Sport at Melbourne Park

Ashleigh Barty may well have been the world number one for a couple of years, but nothing resonates with the wider Aussie public than success at Wimbledon.

Well, other than winning the title in Melbourne.

After SW19 champion Barty won her first-round match, on-court interviewer Jelena Dokic was overcome with emotion as she thanked Barty on behalf of the whole nation for winning the Wimbledon title last year.

A recent report by The Age newspaper's Courtney Walsh , externalhighlighted how the number of kids playing tennis had climbed nearly 30% in the past year. Many of them are from indigenous communities and many are girls.

    That's the Barty effect.
