    Djokovic 2-6 5-4 Nadal*

It's past 11pm in Paris. Novak Djokovic leads in this final set and Rafa Nadal is bouncing the ball knowing he is serving to stay in the set. We're 2 hours and 10 minutes in. Yes, you read that correctly.

Djokovic has had no answers to Nadal's use of that short slice. Every time Nadal has used it, I can't think of a point he hasn't won. There's something to learn from watching this. Tennis is not just about hitting balls.

    Nadal holds out.

There's no obvious flow or momentum. You think Djokovic is taking it and then his rival just stands there and says "no chance".

Honestly, flick a coin. Or just listen to and read about every fantastic second of it.

    What a point.

Both men at the net. a Djokovic flick across the face of Nadal... the Spaniard gets there and sends the ball deep... Djokovic chases (of course he does) and makes it.... only for Nadal to smash home.

No inch given. You work for everything or you get nothing.

    Advantage Nadal...

Djokovic drags himself ahead for the first time in the set and initially looks calm as he walks back to his chair.

Then after staring at his support team and seeing them go wild, he roars at the crowd behind his chair.

That prompted a reaction from some in there, and not entirely positive.

Hardly Cantona getting pelters from Leeds fans though.

It's 21 unforced errors from Novak, 22 for Nadal.

The Spaniard has hit 31 winners to his rival's 23.

A run through the stats throws nothing overly alarming up. The difference now is the width of a postage stamp.

Djokovic's first serve is miles better than what it was in the first set.

    I'm absolutely loving this.

Say what you want about Novak Djokovic. He has just stood by his chair and screamed "COME ONNNNN" into the night.

He has held his serve. We've had two games totalling 24 minutes in length.

It's an out and out scrap. And I am so here for it...

A backhand down the line for Novak. Stunning. If you or I did it on a local court we'd need to discuss how good it was. Djokovic walks back unmoved. Ice cube.

    Nadal responds. Whipped forehand. Deuce.

    Absolute aliens.

Novak Djokovic is roaring now. A long, strong, loud scream from the stomach as he makes it 40-30 on serve.

He goes cross-court with a backhand and finds the net. I honestly have no idea what way this is going to go folks. I wish I could tell you so you can get some kip safe in the knowledge you'll be up to speed come morning.

    I have no idea.

Nadal brings up break point now. Two minutes ago we were talking about a plot twist...

Half expected to hear a Djokovic roar which could have been heard on the Champs-Elysees.

Instead we see a steely clenched fist and a gnarly chew of the jaw.

He's telling the crowd that he means business and is ready for the fight.

Djokovic shakes his fist and looks up at the crowd. He's drawing energy by the minute because he's just won his third game in a row.

That was slightly weary from Nadal. I'm not saying he's tired, but it's out of character with what we've witnessed in this match. Djokovic is definitely making progress.

What a time for Nadal to produce his first double fault of the match.

More groans echo around when he dumps a backhand into the net for the second break point in deuce.

In-between, there are boos when he is given a time violation.

More tension inside Chatrier than the waiting room at the taxman's office.

The pair trade drop shots. Both attempts are poor. Nadal can hammer a ball at Djokovic who flings a racquet at it with no hope of a serious return. It's out.

Deuce. It was summer when this game started. Is it time for an advent calendar yet?

Djokovic brings up a fifth break point...
