Feels like a football match outside Rod Laver Arena.

Shirts, scarves and flags from the thousands of Serbian and Greek fans gathered in the Grand Slam Oval, where they will watch on a big screen, provide the colour.

The terrace-style chanting provides the noise.

    *Tsitsipas 1-2 Djokovic

Another error is drawn off the Tsitsipas backhand before the Greek comes out on top of an enthralling 25-shot rally.

Djokovic wins the next lengthy rally as Tsitsipas shoots long off the front, but Tsitsipas levels with a serve that his opponent can only get the slightest of touches to.

But Tsitsipas then pushes a forehand out and Djokovic has another break point.

Tsitsipas tries to get round on his forehand when he can. He has a good backhand but it can break down. Djokovic's tactics are very clear. He is going to the backhand all the time, Tsitsipas can hit two or three but eventually that can draw an error.

What a comeback from the Greek from 15-40 down.

    *Tsitsipas 0-1 Djokovic

Tsitsipas saves the first break point, Djokovic unable to return a powerful serve.

Djokovic then wastes the second, putting too much behind a forehand.

    *Tsitsipas 0-1 Djokovic

After a deep, engaging rally dictated by Tsitsipas, the Greek bats a forehand into the net to concede the opening point of his serve.

He then shanks a forehand high and out, rectifying that on the next opportunity with his first ace of the day.

But then a backhand down the line drops just over the baseline and Djokovic has two break points early on.

Novak Djokovic has been wearing strapping on his left thigh during the tournament to protect that hamstring injury.

Today it has gone. Instead he seems to have a patch of flesh-coloured tape on the inside of the leg.

Strapping or not, former Wimbledon finalist Mark Philippoussis - part of Tsitsipas' coaching set-up - said earlier this week that Djokovic's opponents would assume he is "100%".

Djokovic eased himself into the match although that shank was a little bit weird. He's human but I think there are nerves on both sides of the net. I imagine he will try and really go after Tsitsipas in this game.

    *Tsitsipas 0-1 Djokovic

Djokovic gets off to a lovely start, racing to 40-0 up before awkwardly skewing a backhand well off court.

He seals the hold on the next point with an assured forehand on to the line.

A gaggle of snappers stand in front of where Novak Djokovic's team are gathered.

Why? To see if his father Srdjan shows up.

Djokovic senior missed the semi-final because he didn't want to be a "distraction" after becoming embroiled in controversy when he was pictured with pro-Putin Russian fans.

Today, the seat next to Djokovic's mum Dijana - where Srdjan usually sits - remains conspicuously empty.

  17. 'A few question marks about Djokovic'published at 08:39 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

    Pat Cash
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 Live

There's a few question marks for me about Novak. His movement is probably the most important one for me. You cannot instantly flick a switch and move lightening fast, which he is going to need to do today.

I can see he is just a little slower when he is really wide, and isn't that what he's famous for? Stretched out like an elastic band? That hasn't happened at this tournament and he is going to have to chase down some balls.

I had a chat with [Djokovic's coach] Goran Ivanisevic about his ball toss. It going further to the right and you see the sense of frustration from his coach. He keeps telling him to pull the ball toss back when he is under stress.

If he can serve consistently and if he can move really well - then I'll pick Novak. But I don't know that can happen so I am edging towards Tsitsipas.

    The latest update from Melbourne?

Soggy. It has been raining in the past half hour, although it seems to have just stopped.

The roof on Rod Laver Arena is currently closed - as it always is for the pre-match entertainment in order to make things a little more atmospheric.

But if it does tip it down again before the start of the match and the roof is closed, it will remain shut for the whole final as per the Australian Open policy.

Top seeds Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova extended their remarkable winning run at major tournaments as they defended their Australian Open women's doubles title earlier today.

The Czech pair's 6-4 6-3 victory over Japan's Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara was their 24th Grand Slam win in a row - and they have now won each of the past four Slam events that they have contested.

Their seventh major title together also saw them become the first to defend the women's doubles title at Melbourne Park since 2014.

"What we achieved the last few months, it's amazing," Siniakova said.
