Back on the court, Djokovic makes light work of his latest service game. That's 12 points from 12 in his games so far. He's not letting Medvedev have a look.

They are taking the underdog’s position a little more.

Medvedev hits long - and Djokovic sense an opportunity.

The pressure is building on Medvedev at 0-30, but Djokovic fails to further turn up the heat with a loose backhand.

And what a way to polish it off! Successive aces. Medvedev continues to find a way.

From two brick walls exchanging bruising baseline hits, to nimble athletes dazzling at the net with their extraordinary reactions.

That point had a bit of everything. But, as has often been the case in the standout moments so far, Djokovic comes out on top.

It's a second love hold for the Serb in this set.

It does not look as promising for Daniil Medvedev at the moment.

He’s not playing nearly as well as he did against Carlos Alcaraz and a big part of that is the contribution from Novak Djokovic.

A much better start for Medvedev in the second set, but it still feels as though Djokovic has the upper hand - and another level he can go to should it be required. He's playing catch-up for now, though...

A timely first serve brings Medvedev to safety, keeping the pressure on Djokovic.

A blistering first serve gets Medvedev up and running as he looks to push Djokovic harder in the second set.

There's plenty of support for the Russian as he gets to 30-0. The crowd are keen for Medvedev to impose himself and prove this could unfold into a late night epic.

Djokovic has other ideas. Deuce.

It allows Djokovic to cruise to a first love hold. Medvedev needs to raise his level here.

These double faults will undoubtedly be frustrating Medvedev, but he dusts himself down and does well to clinch the hold of serve from there.

That's a much better start for the Russian third seed.

Medvedev makes no mistakes with a smash after the ball seems to hang in the air for a lifetime, and that's an important point too for 30-30.

But his fourth double fault today gifts Djokovic deuce in this opening game. Medvedev desperately needs to cut those out.

Medvedev has some thinking to do in the bathroom. How can he negate Djokovic?

Turning things around against the great man is not an easy job.

Ask the 308 opponents who have lost to Djokovic at Grand Slam after losing the first set.

He's only lost six times at a major from this position.

That's the bad news for Medvedev. The good news? Carlos Alcaraz showed in the Wimbledon final that it can be done.

I thought it was beautiful the way Novak Djokovic was hitting the ball, the long exchanges and when he threw in those serve-volleys it changed the course of the set.

It was getting extremely physical. It was just a brilliant set. High quality and I can’t tell you how brilliant some of these volleys were.

Djokovic has been solid so far. He has that steely look in his eyes as he sits in his chair and awaits Medvedev's return.

Medvedev acknowledged that he'd need to play his very best to stand a chance of victory tonight and so far he's not quite been able to do that.

But new set, new possibilities.
