Sue Barker said to the British team in her message of support to treasure these moments. That's exactly what they have been doing. They are locked into the battle.

    Barnett/Nicholls 6-7 (1-7) 3-3 Sanders/Stosur*

Great Britain pull themselves back from 15-30 down to hold as Sam Stosur skews a backhand well wide.

Still nothing to separate GB from Australia in this second set.

Any guesses where that first break will come from?

Australia hold to 15, a cracker of a diagonal forehand from Storm Sanders winning the final point.

We're still on serve in this second set, and still the band in the Emirates Arena bring amazing energy to court.

On her own serve, Olivia Nicholls exploits a gap on the Australian side of the court but that initial lead is wiped out, a double fault handing Sanders/Stosur a 30-15 lead.

Fear not, parity is soon restored, and then deuce. From there, GB hold, expertly judging the flight of a return, leaving it and watching it land long of the baseline.

Sam Stosur double-faults at 40-0 up, and then again on the very next point. Feeling the pressure?

She lands her next serve but Stosur then scoops a return high and out and suddenly, GB have a sniff of a break.

A sigh of relief for Stosur though - Australia hold after a long GB effort.

    Barnett/Nicholls 6-7 (1-7) 1-1 Sanders/Stosur*

"Great serve," Olivia Nicholls tells Alicia Barnett as the first point goes their way.

That's doubled with great reactions from Nicholls at the net, but halved again when Storm Sanders finds space off the forehand.

"Gooooooooo" cries Barnett as GB's game lead extends to 40-15, but Sanders again keeps Australia in contention. Yet soon enough, the hold is secured.

At 30-30, the British pair have a glimpse at a chance before the door is quickly slammed shut by the Aussies.

Stosur slaps away a volley for 40-30 and they seal the game when Barnett goes long with a backhand.

Scoreboard pressure is already on the Brits.

    Barnett/Nicholls 6-7 (1-7) 0-0 Sanders/Stosur*

Solid start from the Aussies as they look to kick off with a hold.

But the Brits put up a wall at 30-15, bouncing the ball back to the Australian side.

Sanders, fed up of playing squash, impudently goes big and whacks it long.

The last time these two played one another in the semi-final - in 1981 - it came to the doubles. Britain took it on that occasion.

But they need to find a way back now and put that set behind them. They had a set point and were unable to take it.

The crowd were just a touch too early. They thought that good play from Barnett on set point would lead to a winner.

    Australia have hung in there.

A 30-0 lead on serve for GB is wiped out as Australia battle back into the game and level.

But beautiful play at the net from the British pair brings up game point, and Alicia Barnett bags the hold with a cute touch over the net.

Barnett celebrates every point like it's a match-winner, and I love it. More of this please.

It just shows serving for the set can be so difficult, not matter how much experience you have.

GB need only one, Olivia Nicholls sealing the point at the net. Cue huge roars both on and off the court.

GB race into a 40-0 lead but the love hold is prevented as Sam Stosur lets rip on a cross-court forehand to her right side, Storm Sanders ducking out of the way just in time.

GB retain the game but Australia will now serve for the set.
