Good hold, important hold, for Heather Watson.

After the extended break for Storm Sanders' medical timeout, that was exactly the start to the second set which Great Britain wanted.

A back-and-forth opener results in an important hold to 30 for Heather Watson, Storm Sanders finding the net to hand Watson the game.

Just the start the Brit needed.

    *Watson 4-6 0-0 Sanders

A pause at the moment as Storm Sanders has left the court for a bit of medical treatment.

It was a really tight battle in the first set, not too much between the two players.

Watson's first serve percentage was only 50% and that has to improve.

    *Watson 4-6 0-0 Sanders

A hold to 15 secures the opening set for Storm Sanders and Australia.

She seals the deal with a superb cross-court forehand at the net.

Heather Watson will have to do it the hard way if she's to win this singles rubber.

Serving for the set is very different, it really is.

You have different emotions and you see it so often that players can't serve out.

If the arm is a bit heavy and the serves are not zipping through then Watson might have a chance on the return.

    Watson 4-5 Sanders*

Heather Watson is still alive in this set. She holds her nerve to navigate some tricky moments on her serve, holding to 30 put the pressure back firmly on the shoulders of Storm Sanders. A huge roar from the Brit as Sanders finds the net.

The Australian to now serve for the set.

You have those moments when the pressure is on you, but Storm Sanders has experienced them before, having reached Grand Slam doubles semi-finals.

Some brilliantly well-worked points from Heather Watson to keep herself in Storm Sanders' service game, much more positive play from the Brit and her team-mates are on their feet every move she makes.

She's unable to stop the Sanders hold though, and will now serve to stay in the first set.

    Watson 3-4 Sanders*

At 15-all on her serve, Watson plays a b-e-a-utiful backhand down the line but Sanders levels again.

The Australian hands Watson game point, narrowly mis-placing a straight forehand just inside the tramlines, but Watson squanders her opportunity with a skewed forehand.

Watson is still struggling with her first serve, only landing 48% so far, but gets the hold. She needs that break back though.

You can see Heather Watson is just trying to calm herself between points. Storm Sanders is a bit more bouncy and bubbly at the moment.

A roar of 'come on!' at the end of the game is a sign Sanders knows she might be able to get into Watson's mindset.

    *Watson 2-4 Sanders

An odd moment as Storm Sanders, at 30-0 up, swings to hit a return, and completely misses the ball! She seemed to misjudge the bounce, but is able to smile it off.

Brilliant work from Heather Watson sees her bring herself back into the game to level at 40-40, and finds herself with a break point for the first time today as Sanders shoots long off the forehand.

She can't convert it, skewing a backhand well out of court, and then drags another backhand wide to hand Sanders the advantage. The Australian gets the important hold as Watson fails to return a serve.

That is such an important hold for Watson, keeping it to one break of serve.

You felt there was a bit of tension in her shoulders and Sanders was starting to dictate play.

But Watson switched that round and she was the one on the front foot more often.

10am is an early start for tennis, and the stands are still filling up with mostly British supporters. But there are at least two large Australian flags in place behind their team bench.

Heather Watson may be over a hundred places higher than Storm Sanders in the rankings, but the Australian has been quietly playing herself into form on the ITF Tour recently and has four wins for her country already this week.

The pressure is on Watson now and there is a different dynamic for Britain today.

With not much expectation against Spain, it was about desire and impulse, using the team spirit.

Now there is a bit more belief and that can put on more pressure.

    Watson 2-3 Sanders*

Watson thinks she's opened her service game with an ace but Sanders challenges the call, and Hawk-Eye proves she was right to do so. Just out.

The first two points go Sanders' way, before Watson claws back level. The Brit moves to 40-30 as Sanders slams a backhand into the net, and holds with a volleyed forehand.

A very important hold for Watson there.

Sanders is getting married next week. If she takes her husband's name she will become Storm Hunter. Quite a fitting name.

Heather Watson finds herself with an immediate opportunity to get the game back on serve, a break point at 40-30, but she's unable to make use of it.

Another lovely touch on the volley from Sanders earns her the advantage, the game going her way as Watson returns a serve too long.
