    Cachin 3-6 3-6 6-7 (4-7) Djokovic

Third time lucky for Novak Djokovic as the seven-time champion continues his proud record of never having lost a first-round match at Wimbledon.

The world number two was kept honest by a fine effort from Argentine debutant Pedro Cachin who earns a warm ovation from the Centre Court crowd as he leaves the arena.

Djokovic was taken two hours and 15 minutes by the world number 68 in what was certainly a good workout for the second seed.

Now a double fault from Novak Djokovic, a real collector's item at such a key point.

He replies with an ace. Far less rare. 4-1 to the defending and seven-time champion.

    Cachin 3-6 3-6 6-6 (0-3) Djokovic*

No way, Pedro! Double fault threatens to undo his hard work to get to this point.

And Djokovic wins the next point against serve too. Fully in control of the tie-break already after the double mini-break.

    Cachin 3-6 3-6 6-6 Djokovic

    Feliciano Lopez
Former Wimbledon and US Open quarter-finalist on BBC TV

Djokovic is still ambitious, he still wants to win more tournaments and to keep breaking records.

I don’t get it. It’s never easy - not only if you are Novak Djokovic - it’s a lot of effort and things you have to do to win so many matches and titles.

  10. Tie-breakpublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 3 July 2023

    Cachin 3-6 3-6 6-6 Djokovic*

Fully deserved, Pedro Cachin. Deserved a tie-break at least. Now can he take this match into a fourth set?

Not if Novak Djokovic keeps pounding down the aces. First point to the Serb.

    *Cachin 3-6 3-6 5-6 Djokovic

Novak Djokovic has a free hit here at two sets up. He can go aggressive with his shots to try to avoid needing a tie-break.

A big forehand is evidence of just that but Pedro Cachin responds with a huge serve and then an intricate drop volley at the net. 40-15 to the Argentine.

Can Pedro Cachin force a tie-break and extend this match? He lost his last service game in both the first two sets. If he does again now it's all over.

Djokovic four points away from round two.

  13. Broady breaks back in third setpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 3 July 2023

    *Broady 6-1 6-3 2-2 Lestienne

It had all been rather straightforward for Liam Broady for two sets of his match against Constant Lestienne.

But the Frenchman has just reminded the Briton that he may not go away quietly.

For the first time today, Lestienne shows a bit of emotion as he sets up and then takes a break point for a 2-1 lead - however Broady is gifted an immediate break back following a series of misses by his opponent.

  14. Cachin serves to stay in matchpublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 3 July 2023

    *Cachin 3-6 3-6 5-6 Djokovic

Novak Djokovic holds to love - he's done that a few times today and no wonder with the kind of delicious drop volleys he twice pulled out in that game.

Pedro Cachin must serve to stay in the set - and the match.

  16. Can Choinski dance through to round two?published at 17:05 British Summer Time 3 July 2023

    Choinski v Lajovic

Germany-born British wildcard Jan Choinski makes his Wimbledon debut shortly on court 17 - and there’s a reason he might be a bit lighter on his feet than your average tennis player.

That’s because both of the 27-year-old’s parents, Singapore-born mother Dominique and Poland-born father Andrzej, were professional ballet dancers.

"I danced at my parents’ ballet school until I was 12," said Choinski. "But it was never in my mind to become a professional ballet dancer - it was a way of building myself up for tennis."

But Choinski has a tough nut to crack in the first round, facing Dusan Lajovic, who is one of only four men to have beaten 23-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic this year.

  17. Cachin holds from 0-30 downpublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 3 July 2023

    Cachin 3-6 3-6 5-5 Djokovic*

Then the Argentine reads Djokovic's cross-court drop shot riposte and sends a tricky, acute winner down the line, right into the corner.

A Djokovic error later and it's 5-5. Respect to Cachin who has not folded at all.

    Burrage 6-1 McNally

    Jess Anderson
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Very, very impressive stuff from Jodie Burrage!

I think the crowd are almost in a bit of disbelief at how well the Briton is playing.

She had a huge grin on her face before the match when the crowd cheered as she took to court and we see that smile again as McNally sends her shot long to wrap up that opening set for Burrage.

What a way to get her Wimbledon campaign started!
