  1. Swiatek saves another break point to holdpublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    Swiatek 5-3 Liu*

What's that? A hold at last.

Back-to-back forced errors from Swiatek hand Liu a 0-30 lead and though the Pole battles back level, Liu pings a lovely backhand into the corner for yet another break point. This one she can't take, sending a forehand net-bound after a nine-shot rally.

It's an opportunity she comes to rue, handing Swiatek advantage with an over-hit forehand before the defending champion sees the game out with a backhand into space. That's her first hold since her opening service game.

Liu will now serve to stay in the first set.

  2. Tiafoe trailing Karatsevpublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    Karatsev 6-3 Tiafoe*

Meanwhile, over on Court Simonne Matthieu, American 12th seed Francis Tiafoe is finding himself in a spot of early bother with Russia's Aslan Karatsev taking the opening set in little over half an hour.

Karatsev has some Grand Slam pedigree, having reached the semi-finals of the 2021 Australian Open although he has never gone beyond the second round at Roland Garros.

  3. Sinner breaks back in battle on Lenglenpublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    *Sinner 7-6 (7-0) 6-7 (9-7) 6-1 3-3 Altmaier

Over on Court Suzanne Lenglen, eighth seed Jannik Sinner is in the midst of a real battle against Germany's Daniel Altmaier.

The pair took a tie-break each from the first two sets before Sinner breezed through the third.

The Italian went a break down early in the fourth but has broken back to regain the momentum.

  4. Swiatek breaks againpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    *Swiatek 4-3 Liu

Blimey. This time it's the turn of Iga Swiatek to go 0-40 up and having lost her double break, reacts instantaneously.

The first of those three break points goes begging but Swiatek capitalises on the second, whipping a forehand cross-court to give Claire Liu no chance.

  5. Friday's order of playpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

The order of play for Friday has been released.

Cameron Norrie, the only Briton left in the singles, has been scheduled third on Court Simone Mathieu against Italy's Lorenzo Musetti.

Serbia's two-time champion Novak Djokovic is third on Court Philippe Chatrier against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain.

Meanwhile, Spanish top seed Carlos Alcaraz's match against Canada's Denis Shapovalov has been picked for the night session - which means that a women's match has still yet to feature in the primetime slot this year. That's five men's matches in five night sessions so far.

  6. Liu breaks againpublished at 15:09 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    Swiatek 3-3 Liu*

Claire Liu is finding her feet here.

She races to a 0-40 lead on Iga Swiatek's serve and takes the break to 15.

After the shakiest of starts, she's levelled things up and taken the last three games in succession.

  7. GB's Glasspool into men's doubles third roundpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    Glasspool & Heliovaara 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 Popyrin & Ivashka

Briton Lloyd Glasspool and Finland's Harri Heliovaara have just completed a straight-sets victory over Belarusian Ilya Ivashka and Australian Alexei Popyrin.

The fifth seeds won 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 and join GB's Jamie Murray and New Zealand's Michael Zenus, who won earlier today against Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah, in the third round.

  8. Liu gets first holdpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    *Swiatek 3-2 Liu

Liu's serve isn't firing off all cylinders but she's given a helping hand by Swiatek errors as she works her way to a 40-15 lead on serve.

Though Liu hands her a point back, she gets an important hold - her first of the day - as Swiatek shoots out of bounds.

  9. Liu gets a break backpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    Swiatek 3-1 Liu*

Liu can't connect properly with a Swiatek return to cost her the first break point. On her second, she puts too much juice on her backhand in returning a Swiatek serve and she casts a frustrated figure at deuce.

She gets a third chance though, and this one goes in her favour as Swiatek crashes a forehand into the net.

  10. Break back points Liupublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    *Swiatek 3-0 Liu

Swiatek's forehand is causing some trouble for Liu but the American is finding some decent shots of her own after those early, expensive mistakes.

She's also drawing some errors off the Swiatek racquet, and Liu finds herself with two break back points.

  11. Swiatek breaks againpublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    *Swiatek 3-0 Liu

Yes she can. Swiatek wrongfoots Liu off the forehand to take the break.

Just 15 minutes played and this is already proving a mountain to climb for Liu.

  12. Break point Swiatekpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    Swiatek 2-0 Liu*

Claire Liu improves her first serve percentage from the first game but Iga Swiatek matches her for every point.

Swiatek earns herself a break point with a cracker of a forehand whipped cross-court. Can she go a double break up?

  13. Swiatek holdspublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    Swiatek 2-0 Liu*

A nice and easy hold to 15 for Iga Swiatek in her first service game, sealed with an ace.

There's an urgency to her footwork already, she wants to get this match wrapped up ASAP.

  14. Andreeva, 16, makes third roundpublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    Andreeva 6-1 6-2 Parry

At only 16, Russian Mirra Andreeva is through to the third round of her first Grand Slam after beating Frenchwoman Dianne Parry.

Andreeva, who said at the end of her previous match that a text from Andy Murray may have been one of the reasons for her good form, will play either American sixth seed Coco Gauff or Austria's Julia Grabher for a spot in the second week.

  15. Swiatek breaks on second chancepublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    *Swiatek 1-0 Liu

Swiatek can't utilise that first break point but Liu immediately hands her another, a smash at the net completely mis-hit and she lets out a little scream as the ball flies off her racquet.

Swiatek converts the second break point and takes early control. The Pole turned 22 yesterday - hope she celebrated with a birthday croissant.

  16. Immediate break point Swiatekpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    Swiatek 0-0 Liu*

A few signs of early nerves from Claire Liu as she takes on the world number one on one of the sport's biggest stages.

At game point, the 23-year-old shanks a return long and is made to pay as Iga Swiatek brings up advantage and break point with a forehand into the corner.

  18. 'Of course I feel pressure'published at 14:32 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    Swiatek v Liu

Asked if she feels any pressure playing at Roland Garros as a two-time champion, Swiatek said: "Of course I feel pressure. I think we all feel pressure. I would be lying if I said I don't.

"But I'm trying to work with it and play my game no matter the circumstances and the expectations from the outside.

"It's not easy but I think it's the most important thing in tennis right now to cope with that properly, and I already know how to do that."

She made light work of her first-round match against Cristina Bucsa, winning 6-4 6-0.

Claire Liu, meanwhile, has never progressed past the second round in Paris, or indeed at any other Grand Slam. She beat Switzerland's Ylena In-Albon 6-1 6-4 in her opener.

  20. Raducanu parts ways with coachpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

A bit of news from elsewhere in the tennis world today.

Britain's Emma Raducanu has parted ways with her coach Sebastian Sachs - her fifth coach in two years.

She said: "I have really enjoyed Seb’s coaching and working with him, it’s unfortunate that circumstances made it unfeasible for both of us to continue right now and we have decided to part ways. I wish Seb all the best moving forwards."

Raducanu is currently recovering from minor operations on both hands and an ankle.
