    On his solid backhand and any tips for anyone?: "Just close your eyes and swing, and pray for the best. The prayers have to be before the match to be honest because when it is six-all in the fifth nothing really helps anymore.

    "We all have great backhands in my family. No forehands – nobody really knew how to hold a tennis racquet on the forehand side, or the serve as well but I am lucky enough to be 6ft 6in.

    "I guess it comes from the family."

    On facing either Carlos Alcaraz or Miomir Kecmanovic next: "The match is still going on. Obviously I am a Kecmanovic number one fan right now. Obviously Carlos is from the new generation. He’s extremely young and successful already. He’s also incredibly respectful and the crowd always loves him.

    "I know the crowd here doesn’t know him yet but trust me you’ll get to know him over the next 25 years. He has time but hopefully it is going to be my day in the quarter-finals."
