  1. Zverev gets the breakpublished at 06:27 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2024

    *Zverev 7-5 3-2 Norrie

A dream return from Alexander Zverev and that's the break of serve sorted. He's now a set and a break ahead. It's starting to look a long way back for Norrie.

    Zverev 7-5 2-2 Norrie*

Norrie comes to the net behind his second serve and Zverev has to sprint around the court but gets to the ball in time, although he can't find the range with a passing attempt.

It's 30-30 on the Norrie serve and 2-2 in the second. This feels an important game.

Even more so now that Zverev gets a break point, 30-40.

Ninety-five seconds is all Zverev needs for a hold to love. Zverev has won 28 of 34 points behind the first serve.

Alexander Zverev is winning by a set to love but of the two players he looks like the one who is struggling for a bit of timing.

I think he’s won the most important points here but I think there will be plenty of reasons for Norrie to feel optimistic.

Alexander Zverev's tennis hasn't necessarily been the main talking point at this tournament.

Last week, a Berlin court announced the 26-year-old German faces a trial during this year's French Open over domestic abuse allegations.

    Zverev denies the charges.

In November, the Olympic champion was given a penalty order and fined after being accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

Zverev has lodged an objection against the order, meaning he remains legally innocent and is not convicted until a final ruling.

However, his appointment as a player representative on the ATP Council - which discusses and helps implement changes to the tour - has led to questions.

Zverev has not been in the mood to discuss the issue when asked by reporters, but did say he did not think being a player representative while the case is ongoing was a problem.

Cameron Norrie misses with a volley at the net and then sees an excellent backhand pass him.

But a superbly disguised sliced drop shot is perfect from the Briton and Zverev then misjudges a forehand and that's a very good hold for Norrie after he had been in a bit of trouble in that game.

World number 69 Nuno Borges isn't ready to leave Melbourne just yet...

Third seed Daniil Medvedev coughs up two double faults while trying to serve for the match and then a forehand winner from the Portuguese player gets Borges back level in the third set of this fourth-round match on Rod Laver Arena.

Ukrainian qualifier Dayana Yastremska said she felt like her "heart was going to jump out of her body" after she knocked out Victoria Azarenka to reach the Australian Open quarter-finals.

Yastremska, 23, won 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 against two-time champion Azarenka to move past the last 16 at a Grand Slam event for the first time.

But she will not face an all-Ukrainian quarter-final after Elina Svitolina retired injured against Linda Noskova.

Svitolina stopped due to a back issue.

The Wimbledon semi-finalist had to quit when she trailed 3-0 to the Czech teenager, who also advanced into her first Grand Slam quarter-final.

Svitolina, seeded 19th, said she thought it was a spasm.

"I don't know exactly what it is, but it was like shooting pain in the last two points of the first game," the 29-year-old former world number three said.

"I couldn't do anything. It completely locked my back. I'm just very sad, of course."

Third seed Daniil Medvedev is a game away from reaching his third quarter-final at Melbourne Park.

The former world number one hasn't had it all his own way on Rod Laver Arena, with Portugal's Nuno Borges making himself a nuisance to the Russian with clever drop shots.

However, Medvedev's consistency and strong serving have helped him gain the upper hand so far in this contest.

  13. Game and first set - Zverevpublished at 06:10 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2024

    Zverev 7-5 Norrie

And that's the first set. Alexander Zverev could not take the first set point, but grabs the second opportunity.

That will be a tough one for Cameron Norrie to take after his first serving had been working well. But he got broken in the 11th game and, despite having a break-back chance in the 12th game, couldn't capitalise.

    Superb from Norrie!

The Brit stays glued to the baseline, trading from the back of the court and manages to push Zverev back to earn the break point.

    Zverev looks a little shellshocked.

More shouts of encouragement arrive for Norrie.

Norrie with a chance to break back. It is a thrilling 20-shot rally, Norrie, having been patient, dances forwards and Zverev can't dig out a shot from his laces, 30-40.

Norrie's first break point of the match and a chance he really needs to take.

    Hmmm.

While Norrie has been serving superbly, you kind of felt the pressure of Zverev's comfortable holds might tell.

Unfortunately for the Brit, that's what has happened.

Errors from either wing - plus a superb backhand from Zverev sandwiched in-between - did the most damage.

After winning just four receiving points so far, Norrie needs to find something special here.

Alexander Zverev, unlike Casper Ruud, has one of the game's great backhands, and Norrie has the mistake of going to it once or twice - and got stung.
