The final two runs of the women's luge have just begun. World champion Natalie Geisenberger of Germany led after two runs and she has just got down the course at the Sanki Sliding Centre with the minimum of fuss. She's a big favourite to push Germany up the medal table, which Canada currently rule.

  2. How's the weather?published at 14:28 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2014

Rising temperatures have forced Olympics organisers to put snow stored since last winter onto the race piste to preserve the courses in the mountains but the IOC is confident that the mild weather will not cause problems.

At noon on Tuesday, weather reports showed the temperature on peaks was at -6C while on the lower levels of the mountain cluster it was 6C.

In fact, I'm repelling the other half's pleas to go on a skiing holiday because I'm certain I'd end up with a knee injury. I fancy something more sedate and less life-threatening. Curling, perhaps.

Whatever Winter Olympic sport you're finding yourself compelled to try, our Get Inspired page can tell you how to get involved.

Watching these amazing Winter Olympic sports makes me wonder how these athletes discover they have such talents. I mean, what makes you first have a go at luge, or halfpipe snowboarding, or ski jumping? "I can ski quite fast, I wonder if I can fly 90m through the air on these bad boys?"

Now then, have you met this fella before? The polar bear drawing so much attention is Bely Mishka, one of the three Sochi 2014 mascots. I'm a fan of his cravat. Other polar bears should take note.

As expected, American defending champion Shaun White leads the way in the second heat in the men's halfpipe event. His first run score of 95.75 has been the best of the day and he moves straight into the final, along with Taku Hiraoka of Japan (92.25) and Danny Davis of USA (92.00).

They join Ayumu Hirano of Japan (92.25) and Switzerland duo Christian Haller (83.75) and David Habluetzel (81.00), who advanced to the final from the first heat.

These six competitors will be joined in the final by six further men, who will have to battle through the semi-finals at 15:00 GMT, before the final starts at 17:30 GMT.

The second run gets under way at 14:34 and the best skaters go last.

So, three gold medals have been won so far today, and there are still five more up for grabs. The first is in women's 500m speed skating, followed by women's biathlon (begins at 14:50 GMT), women's luge (14:25), men's snowboard halfpipe (17:25) and women's ski jumping (17:25).

Whelbourne rolled his right ankle, which is now in an air cast. He has an X-ray on Monday, which revealed no fracture. He is next due to compete on Thursday in the 1000m short track heats.

GB short track team leader Stuart Horsepool said: "It's down to the physio and Jack - we've got until Thursday.

"He went to the pool this morning for rehab, and he's in an air cast at the moment."

We're just seeing that crash again. Russia's Sergey Ustigov, Sweden's Marcus Hellner and Norway's Anders Gloersen were the men to come a cropper. Can you imagine busting your lungs three times around an 1,800m cross-country course to make an Olympic final, the highlight of your career, only to crash out in the final? Gutted wouldn't come close.

These men have had to complete this 1,800m course four times today - gruelling. Jonsson, the bronze-medal winner, lies prone on the floor, having to be helped to his feet. Hattestad, the victor, looks like he do it all again, celebrating with Norwegian flag.

Unbelievable. A three-way crash leaves Norway's Ola Vigen Hattestad and Sweden's Teodor Peterson as the only two men standing. Jonsson, so far off the pace, is back in the hunt for bronze.
