Right, turns out that stat was actually way off. Or, more likely, I massively misinterpreted it.

The truth is that one in six of Slovenia's registered ice hockey players is in their Olympic squad.

Clearly a whole different fact altogether.

I've just been told an amazing statistic. Apparently one in six of every registered peoeple in Slovenia plays ice hockey. Can that be true? Seems like a lot. Either way, Slovenia have pulled one back against Russia, to trail 2-1. Elsewhere, United States are 4-1 up on Slovakia.

I've just watched that Bolero routine again, reminding me of endless replays that were shown to me as a kid. The thing that sticks in my memory the most? The arena announcer. "6-0. 6-0. 6-0. 6-0. Thank you."

When I was younger, whenever Torvill and Dean were mentioned, I immediately thought of green duck Orville. Not to be confused now, but a skating puppet? Come on, that's gold.

Now then, what will you be doing tomorrow? As I'm sure you know (or at least, if you don't know now I may have just saved you a row with the other half), it's Valentine's Day.

But, what were you doing 30 years ago? Not born? Me neither. But I'm familiar with perhaps the famous moment in British Winter Olympic history - Torvill and Dean's Bolero.

That night in Sarajevo, three decades ago, the legendary pair became the highest scoring figure skaters of all time.

It may lack the thrills and spills of short track speed skating, but the longer discipline is the purer test of speed.

In individual races, skaters race in separate lanes against the clock - not each other - on a 400m oval.

All events are skated once, apart from the 500m, which is skated twice. The team pursuit follows a knockout format.

So, in under an hour, it's the women's 1000m speed skating. "Haven't we just had speed skating?" I hear you ask. Well, yes, but that was the short track version. What's the difference? Allow me to explain...
