We've had it confirmed that a track worker has been injured in an accident at the Sanki Sliding Centre.

In a bobsleigh practice session, an empty 'forerunner' sleigh was sent down the course and hit a worker who was part of a team working to repair a light fitting.

The worker has been taken to hospital. We have no news on their injuries yet.

I've had the benefit of one more replay of that women's 500m short-track final. Going into the second bend, Christie almost didn't turn, perhaps looking for a gap that wasn't there. The result was her and two others on the ice. Make up your own mind as to whether her punishment was just.

More from Elise Christie: "[Talking about the decision] No, I thought she hit me. I was not sure if it would go my way, I did not think it would be me [to be penalised] but it was. You have to respect the decision.

"I have not watched it back so I cannot comment. During the race, I thought I was in front.

"I was really relaxed as it was not my major event. I will use the next day to get my head back together."

Elise Christie on BBC One: "Basically, I knew if I sat in third the Chinese girl [Jianrou Li] would come at the end. I had the speed so I moved up, but I was hit on the foot and then hit everyone else.

"It was a 50/50 call, but everyone has different opinions. There was a little gap, and I knew I had more speed at that point.

"I used my instinct and went for it. Now I am regretting it."

A tearful Elise Christie is speaking to BBC One. Whether you think she was at fault or not, you still can't help but feel for her.

There is a little crumb of British success for us to hang on to on this rollercoaster afternoon. The GB men's curling team have just beaten the United States 5-3 - their fourth win from five games. They are in a good position to reach the semi-finals.

Mark in Berkshire: Elise Christie caused the crash and thus is correctly penalised - a fair decision. She can put her mistake right in the 1,000m - Go Elise!

May I point you to my 11:59 entry - "short track is one of the most exciting sports on the Winter Olympic programme, with wipeouts and crashes commonplace".

We got that one right, didn't we?

This race has me in mind of Australian Steven Bradbury's gold in the men's 1000m.

Coming round the final bend, Bradbury was miles behind the field, only for the other four men to fall. He skated over like a man messing about on a frozen lake to win. One of the most famous Winter Olympic moments in history, which you can watch here.

"Elise Christie has had the most bizarre day of her career. The 23-year-old made it to a 500m final for the first time in her life, crossed the line for a silver medal, then stooped low in agony as she was penalised for causing the crash which dominated her hectic, crazy final.

"She has to forget this race now. This was not her main event: it's crucial for Christie's 1,000m hopes (where she is the world bronze medallist) that she focuses on her incredible performance in reaching today's final, not the frantic and ultimately calamitous consequences."

Remember, though, all is not lost. The 500m is not Christie's strongest event. Her preferred 1000m takes place next week. To clear up - Italy's Arianna Fontana was eventually awarded silver and South Korea's Seung-Hi Park the bronze.

Christie got back on her feet, but by then, there was only the silver to compete for. She crossed the line in second and, for a few moments, had that Olympic medal. We've now had it confirmed that she will actually place eighth in the final, below the athletes in the 'B' final.

Looking again, Elise Christie first collided with Italian Fontana, causing both to slide to the side of the ice. South Korean Park stayed upright for a moment, but then went too. All of this happened within the first lap, effectively ending the race as soon as it had started.

Richard Gatenby:, external Elise Christie caused that crash. Complete lack of composure.

Jack Walker:, external I have no words! What a massive mess that was at the start! I am so disappointed for Elise Christie, wish they could restart.

Emma Boyd:, external Wait, didn't the Italian do the same thing as the British skater?! So how come she didn't get penalised?

After the crash that took out Christie, Italy's Arianna Fontana and Seung-Hi Park of South Korea, China's Jianrou Li only had to stay upright on four ceremonial laps to claim gold. She crossed the line unopposed, not a part of the carnage, or the confusion that would follow.

Absolutely heart-breaking. Great Britain's Elise Christie had an Olympic silver medal for about three minutes. Her part in the collision was to charge on the inside, clipping the ankle of the competitor on her outside, which resulted in that three-woman crash. She is placed fourth and misses out on a medal entirely.

"The big question is what is going to happen to Elise Christie? She charged down the inside, and it was a battle between her and Arianna Fontana.

"I fear the worst about the result standing."
