  1. Men's curling finalpublished at 13:27 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2014

A few things haven't changed since then. Britain is still searching for another men's team to take gold, matching the achievement of Rhona Martin's women in 2002. Also, GB have never matched that four-medal haul of 1924. Today, Dave Murdoch's men will definitely win Britain's fourth medal of these 2014 Games. Question is, what colour will it be?

  2. Men's curling finalpublished at 13:25 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2014

This is what curling looked like the last time Great Britain's men won Winter Olympic gold in Chamonix, France, 1924. The only thing was, the result wasn't recorded as official until 2006. Father and son Willie and Lawrence Jackson, Robin Welsh all died without knowing they were Olympic champions.

Thanks, Sam. How are you feeling? Nervous? Excited? Is it a long lunch or an early finish? Maybe you've got this page minimised on your work computer, hiding it from the boss. Or sneaking a look on your phone at the back of double maths. Either way, over the next three hours or so, we'll hunt together for another British men's Winter Olympic curling gold.

Ok folks, my morning fluffing duties are over. To guide you through the curling final, with Great Britain's men going for gold against favourites Canada, I give you Stephan Shemilt.

It appears that 18-year-old Mikaela Shiffrin will go into the second run of the women's slalom with the fastest time. The skiers lower down the order on the first run are unlikely to trouble the top three or four. Shiffrin, the world champion, was mobbed by fans after her opening effort. If she wins then she will become the youngest women's slalom champion in Olympic history.

Sweden's Loui Eriksson slots in from close range to level up the men's ice hockey semi-final with Finland at 1-1. We have about eight minutes of the second period remaining.

"By this level technique is completely automatic. If you're thinking about it, you shouldn't be there. As a slalom skier you have to be smooth, quick and light off your edges and dance on the snow.

"At the top I would focus on one single thing and often write it on my glove. It might be 'attack', or 'smooth' or 'quick'. It wasn't so much a technical thing, more a feeling. If you get very nervous the lactic builds in the body and you can't move. Everything stiffens up. It's about not going over the arousal curve and down the other side."

"You want to be at the next gate as fast as possible you can't be aggressive through the ski. If you are too hard they will go sideways. It's all about being light, but you have to charge, you can't wait for the gate to come to you."

Olli Jokinen gives Finland the lead over Sweden in the second period of their ice hockey semi-final with a shot from a tight angle. The puck comes to rest over the goal-line and, after a short delay, the umpires award the goal.

"The media are in place but the stands are pretty much empty, probably because there is a huge crowd outside being entertained by the bagpipers, who have just completed an excellent Beatles medley!

"Inside the teams are on the ice for first practice and going through warm-up exercises as a dance version of Ice, Ice Baby pumps out."

It's still 0-0 in the ice hockey semi-final between Sweden and Finland where the second period has just got underway. The Finns have claimed four medals at the last five Olympic Games, but have never won gold. Victory here would give the Finns revenge for their 3-2 defeat to the Swedes in the 2006 Olympic final.

USA's Mikaela Shiffrin takes the lead in the women's slalom with a fantastic time of 52.62 seconds. The 18-year-old now has a chance to become the youngest women's slalom champion in Olympic history.

    Germany's Maria Hoefl-Riesch is second - 0.49 seconds slower.

Tina Maze of Slovenia, who is attempting to become only the second woman in Olympic history with three Alpine golds at a single Winter Olympics, is third.

I've been chatting to Britain's four-time Olympian Emma Carrick-Anderson about how slalom skiers approach a race.

"You have about 45 minutes to inspect the course, sliding slowly through the gates, so you know exactly what is coming up, where there are tricky gates, where you can blast it or where you have to ski with your head," said Emma, who was eighth in the combined slalom at the Games in Albertville in 1992.

"That doesn't mean you come off the gas, but you just come into it a little bit more cautiously than the rest.

"There are hairpins, verticals, undergates - all rhythm changers. A good course setter will set to the hill but there will be times they speed you up or slow you down and they will always throw in a few tricky gates to catch the slightly less experienced."

  17. 10 things you didn't know about curlingpublished at 12:51 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2014

    10. Good sportsmanship, referred to as 'the spirit of curling' is an integral part of the game. You should always congratulate your opponent on a good shot, and never cheer a mistake or miss. Traditionally the losers have to buy the winners a drink after the match by way of congratulations.

"Ski cross gold medallist Marielle Thompson: 'It's crazy, I just had a big wave of emotion. I'm so happy, especially to be up there with my team-mate. We're all about girl power from the start. We tried to help each other all the way down the course.'

"Silver medallist Kelsey Serwa: 'It's the most awesome thing ever. We are both racing for Nick [Canadian ski cross racer Nick Zoricic, who died racing in 2012]. I know he was with us in spirit. This one is for him.'

Bronze medallist Anna Holmlund: 'I think I will start to cry now. One year ago I was in a package (injured) and now I've got a bronze medal. It was the Olympic Games that helped me come back. If it wasn't for the Olympics I probably wouldn't be skiing any more.'

French veteran Ophelie David, 37, who fell in the final: 'I'm so sad that the story ends here today. My career is huge and beautiful, but I missed my goal'."
