Great Britain's men go to the top of the curling standings after beating Denmark 8-6. They were 5-1 down and then 7-6 ahead going into the final end.

A mistake from the Denmark skip handed Britain a win that looked unlikely at various points in the game. They are joint top with Sweden, both with five wins and one defeat.

    Amy Williams
2010 Olympic skeleton champion on BBC TV

"Lizzy Yarnold is unique. She has something different within her psychologically. Within five years of starting she has become an Olympic champion, and that is pretty much unheard of in any sport.

"She experienced intensive teaching in the first year, doing hundreds of run with great equipment and coaching. You have to be taught how to slide, then you are developed from there as quickly as possible into a champion."

What a breathless 20 minutes or so. At about 17:31, Lizzy Yarnold set off down the 1300m tube of ice and, 58.09 seconds later, she was an Olympic champion. Not bad for a woman who hadn't even heard of skeleton six years ago.

"Incredible scenes as Lizzy Yarnold claims gold. USA's 31-year-old mother Noelle Pikus-Pace is jumping up and down in celebration of her impressive silver, Russia's Elena Nikitina punches the air.

"Lizzy Yarnold simply had her head in her hands and can't quite believe what has just happened!"

"She had such a big margin, no-one was going to take it away from her. She panicked a bit with the mistake at the top, but she did not drop that much time.

"She had such a big lead, and she has come down Olympic champion. I am so proud we have kept the medal in Great Britain - her name is in the history books."

"First place and Olympic champion, representing Great Britain." How amazing must it be to hear those words? When her name is announced, Yarnold, red bobble hat on her head, jumps to the top of the podium with a grin big enough to connect the second and third placed competitors that flank her.

I'm just seeing a replay of the end of Yarnold's run. She was remarkably calm as she slid into the rubber buffer, hugging her coach, who picked her up off the ice. She had the flag thrust into her hands, then posed in front of the photographers. Now, there's a minor presentation of flowers, with the gold medal being handed over in the Olympic Park tomorrow.

So emotional at the Sliding Centre - the only person without tears seems to be Lizzy Yarnold. All through the day she has seemed relaxed, even wishing us a happy Valentine's Day.

Amy Williams is crying...I'm even feeling a little teary.
