Mike Hay, Team GB Chef de Mission, has also been talking to BBC Sport. He said: "Incredible. You're watching the clock and Martins Dukurs is such a consistent slider.

"Great credit to Dom, what a fantastic four runs he's put together and credit to the team behind him as well. Andi Schmid has been there since 2002 and they've won a medal at every Games.

"We always thought Dom could be competitive. This was really needed to start the team off, someone who wasn't expected to medal.

"Preparation is huge but you have to give the team credit. There's been a lot made about the suits but its all about the athletes. Team GB have had a slow start, I admit that, but we've got a medal target to hit."

Dom's aim was to get a medal, no one though that was possible, but he's loved this track from the moment these Games started.

I never thought the Dukurs brothers would be fourth and fifth in these Olympics.
