Curling: Great Britain 6-8 Sweden - reaction

    Steve Cram
    Curling commentator on BBC TV

On the controversy in the final end: "It's the right decision in that it can't be overturned now. They tested the stone but the question for me is why haven't we got a better angle of it?

"If nothing else, so we could all see the violation. She [Eve Muirhead] has to have lost contact with the stone before it reaches the red light. Has she touched it again? If she did it would have been by accident.

"What would have helped would have been an overhead camera like we have in other sports. Lots of people have been watching it and nobody could tell."

  3. 'You have to rely on technology'published at 08:44 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2018

Curling: Great Britain 6-8 Sweden - reaction

    Jackie Lockhart
Four-time Olympic curler on BBC Two

"You have to release the stone clearly before the hog line. It's a real sad thing for Eve Muirhead there.

"Sometimes under a little bit of pressure you can hold on to the stone too long. You have to rely on technology. It's a real sad factor.

"These girls are professional enough to know their backs are against the wall but they will go back to the village and re-group.

"On paper you thought Switzerland would be strong opposition but they are not playing well so lets capitalise on that. It's still very much in our hands."

It could be that Muirhead touched the stone twice, and that's what caused her to be penalised.

The main thing is that Great Britain have won three and lost three of their round-robin matches - they're joint fourth in their group.

So, in the words of the oracle that is Jackie Lockhart: "You have to release the stone clearly before red line or eye on the stone will flash red. A red flash means you've hog lined it and the will be taken off."

  9. 'It does feel extraordinarily different'published at 08:33 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2018

    Skeleton

Lizzy Yarnold, who defended her title in the women's skeleton yesterday to become the most successful British Winter Olympian of all time, speaking to BBC TV:

"It was a lot of hard work over the past few years to get to this point. I couldn't have done it by myself.

"The fourth run was just about enjoying it. I needed to set the tone for Janine Flock. I needed to show her I meant business. I didn't expect a track record but to get one was great.

"It does feel extraordinarily different [to victory in Sochi, 2014.] It was a different story coming into this Olympics."

On retirement:"I think I'll have a break, have a holiday and I'll get back to you."

Eve Muirhead is on the telly to explain what's happened!

She says she thinks its the first stone she's ever hogged in her life. It still looks on the replay as though Muirhead had let go of the stone before the hog line before the light came on.

She says it's "gutting" the match has finished that way.

More from Izzy Atkin, speaking to BBC Two: "I feel very honoured to be a part of Team GB. It's one of the smaller teams. It feels awesome.

"Our sport is one of the few sports where we are all really good friends and we cheer everyone on.

"I also wanted them to do well but I really wanted to be on the Olympic podium so it was definitely stressful times.

"My parents came out to watch and my auntie and uncle came all the way from England. That was a surprise. I didn't know they were coming."

'Next time I'll have to go for gold'published at 08:16 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2018

19-year-old Izzy Atkin won Great Britain's first ever medal in a skiing event with bronze in the women's slopestyle final yesterday to kick-start a "Super Saturday."

Speaking to BBC TV, Atkin said: "It was a crazy experience. I left it until the last run which I tend to do quite a bit but it makes us nervous so I was relieved.

"My heart was racing. There were three more girls who were all capable of getting on the podium. Next time I'll just have to go for gold.

"Even just to be a part of this was amazing - let alone coming away with a bronze. I think years of hard work sort of feels like it paid off. I'm still in shock but it's amazing."
