More from Lizzy Yarnold on her friendship with fellow Brit and bronze medallist Laura Deas: "We work very closely as friends and as rivals. My team helped me get there.

"We keep each other going with the cups of teas and chats along the way. The night before my run Laura brought me a massive tub of ice cream so perhaps that helped with my sore throat!

"It's not only in the Olympics [we support each other], it's in every single race - Laura is a phenomenal push athlete so I know I'm always behind her on the start and we always push each other.

"When we come home we share tactics. I know I wouldn't have been on that podium without Laura."

Goalkeeper Shin So-jung pulled off an astonishing 51 saves, but was powerless to stop the joint Korean women's ice hockey team losing their fourth Olympic match on the bounce Sunday as they were defeated 2-0 by Switzerland.

"I was nervous in the first game when the puck came towards me but since the (third) match against Japan, I've been wanting the puck to continue coming to me," said the South Korean.

The historic team, which includes South Koreans and 12 North Koreans, cannot win a medal at the Pyeongchang Games and are now fighting for pride, having shipped 22 goals and scored just once.

There is no moment for refection up there, even though James Woods makes it look so easy. There's so many thing to consider.

It takes a lot of hard work. They just don't show you that because it's about the finesse and the performance.

James Woods came oh-so-close to a bronze medal earlier today.

Some of the curves are dramatically different [to Sochi.] It's a really short period of time to get your head around the track.

Bradley Hall and Joel Fearon have had a great season. We are talking maybe top eight? That would be a great result for them. But anything can happen.

    Nick Hope
    BBC Sport in Pyeongchang

The British men’s two-man bobsleigh team begin their Pyeongchang 2018 campaign at 11:05am GMT with pilot Brad Hall making his Olympic debut.

Hall has made stunning progress as a driver over the last 12 months and back in November secured Britain a first World Cup podium in the sport for over four years!

The two-man event is essentially a warm-up for the four-man competition on the final two day of the Games.

“Of course we want to put on a strong showing but the main thing for the two-man is to gain more experience of the track,” he tells me.

“We feel we really can do something special here next week and hopefully we can start that off with something strong tonight.”

  15. Could injury help take pressure off Christie?published at 10:02 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2018

    Short track: Elise Christie reaction

    Chemmy Alcott
Four-time Olympic alpine ski racer on BBC TV

If Elise can get herself fit enough to start the 1,000m race, she has an excuse to not be at her best. When you have that excuse, it does allow you to perform.

It depends on the level of the injury. If it is just a little something there and she can forget about it, it could be a surprise - a good surprise.

She is triple world champion, she has achieved so much so if it doesn't go the way she hopes, she has all that to fall back on. If it's not to be, it's not to be.

    Short track speed skating

    David McDaid
    BBC Sport in Pyeongchang

"Everyone is very conscious that it doesn't turn into a repeat of Sochi. Charlotte Gilmartin is a good person to have around. Nick Gooch has known Elise for the last 10 years too, has worked with her, and knows how to calm her down and make her think straight.

"They are very careful to make sure she is thinking in the right way. She did say the 1500m isn't her priority - it is the 1,000m.

"Charlotte Gilmartin is absolutely fine. She did damage her ribs the other day. Yesterday she seemed to fall away without touching anyone. She was a little shaky yesterday when I spoke to her but I think it was more concern for Christie.

"Kathryn Thomson is the other British skater. We will have three competitors on the starting line on Tuesday hopefully."

    David McDaid
    BBC Sport in Pyeongchang

"Elise was taken to hospital yesterday but thankfully there were no broken bones. She went back to hospital this morning to have an MRI scan. It revealed there is soft tissue damage. It could be bruising or worse.

"She has been on social media today and seems quite smiley but she is wearing a protective boot. They might even wait up to 20-30 minutes before the heat of the 1,000m to decide if she will race.

"The first heat is on Tuesday - it will take just about 90 seconds - then she has a full day on Wednesday and Thursday before coming back to complete the quarters and semi-finals.

"It's another distance where she is the world champion. She's not had the best of luck so far but If she can get herself in the final, it's the short-track and we know that anything can happen..."
