    Farah: Shell shocked.

Ethan King: Elise Christie just doesn’t seem to be having any luck this year.

Josh Brooks: Blimey speed skating is ruthless. Feel bad for Elise Christie. Did so well to get up after another fall and obvious pain to qualify. The world is cruel sometimes.

Elise Christie's best friend Charlotte Gilmartin was watching on the slidelines as the Scot fell and was then disqualified.

She's got to get her head in the game here. She's the only British hope left in short track.

  4. Christie OUTpublished at 10:32 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2018

    Women's 1000m

If you're just joining us, Elise Christie is OUT of the Winter Olympics .

That does not come close to describing what just happened though. We'll have video clips soon but basically the injured Briton crashed out straight away, the race was restarted, she carried on, made a poor start, came back, was barged, nearly crashed at least twice more, came through, finished second to qualify, had to be carried off the ice and was then shown a yellow card and disqualified.

    Remarkable, it really was.

Mathieus: Yeah big surprise that the judges ruled against Elise Christie once again. She showed heart and courage to compete and qualify and they robbed her.

Sasha: Heart goes out to Elise Christie. What you did was amazing regardless of the result and the whole nation is so proud of you.

Ashley Gorman: These short track speed skating judges have it in for Elise Christie. They need to start showing these special camera angles they are using and explaining their reasoning because this sport looks like a joke!

Elise Christie was carried off the ice in the arms of one of her team before the result - and yellow card - came up on the screen.

She was obviously in pain and struggling with the ankle problem and yet she still finished second.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Short track is ruthless.

The camera positions we are seeing here are not what they [the officials] are seeing - as I've said before. It makes it so difficult to know.

It was a high-speed, spectacular crash between those three skaters.

  11. Postpublished at 10:25 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2018

So from those rules we can surmise that Elise Christie's move was judged to be unsafe, harmful or hazardous.

There's a big crash in the next heat as three skaters go down.

    What a sport...

  13. A reminder of the rulespublished at 10:24 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2018

An infringement of the rules, commonly cutting corners or impeding an opponent, is punishable by a penalty, and the guilty skater being relegated to last place in that heat.

If an infringement is deemed to be an unsafe, harmful or hazardous offence, a yellow card is shown and the skater/team is disqualified and not ranked in the final classification.

If an infringement is deemed to be intentionally dangerous or grossly negligent, a red card is shown, the skater/team is disqualified, not ranked in the final classification and banned from the rest of the Winter Olympics.

If a skater is shown two yellow cards during the Games, they will be given a red card.

The referee has the power to advance a skater who did not finish in the qualifying places in a heat to the next round “in exceptional situations”, eg. if that skater is prevented from qualifying because of an infringement by another skater.
