Ooft. Korea's Cha Min Kyu comes flying out at the start, much to the delight of the crowd.

He's in front by half a second, although his legs have a serious wobble in them as they come towards the finish line...

    Speed skating: Men's 1,000m final

Bit of background on this event.

There's always two competitors on the track at the same time, racing against the clock.

Each skater races once, with the highest-ranked skaters racing at the end of the competition.

    Fastest wins. Simple as that.

    Ice repairs needed!

Far as I can tell, they spray a mini fire extinguisher on it and then hit it. It might be more technical than that. (It definitely is)

Ooh, a little slip from Mathias Voste, and it costs him.

Cue Russian celebrations! A country disgraced in Sochi four years ago, a hockey team that was disgraced by their performance on ice four years ago. If this was their redemption tournament, this team will gladly battle for gold despite wearing a different badge on their shirts.

The second men's ice hockey semi-final sees Canada face the tournament's surprise package, Germany.

Canada are chasing a third successive gold medal – although unlike in 2010 and 2014, they don’t have their NHL stars. They do have the meanest defence so far in the competition, though.

Germany beat Sochi silver medallists Sweden 4-3 to reach the semi-finals with Patrick Reimer hitting the winner in overtime.

The semi-final begins at 12:10 GMT.

    Curling: women's semi-finals

    Caroline Chapman
    BBC Sport in Pyeongchang

During my pre-Games research, I took it upon myself to learn some weird and wonderful facts about Eve Muirhead - skip of the women's curling team and three-time Olympian.

Did you know she is a very good golfer? She now plays off three having used to be scratch.

She loves peanut butter and porridge (not together, I don't think) and has the Olympic rings tattooed on her back.

    Isn't the internet wonderful?
