America's Jamie Anderson landed the best jump of run one in the women's big air final, putting her just ahead of Austria's world champion Anna Gasser with a score of 90.00. Anderson is going for a second gold after winning the slopestyle event.

This is the event that should have featured Britain's Katie Ormerod before she was ruled out after fracturing her heel in training.

Switzerland 3-4 Great Britain (after end 5)

It's game of centimetres. Kyle Smith slightly miscues for the first time today and the Swiss take advantage to pick up two points.

No great drama for the Brits because they're still in control at halfway stage.

  3. Hirscher out of slalompublished at 01:12 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2018

    Men's slalom

A huge surprise already in the men's slalom with favourite Marcel Hirscher out after missing a gate early on his first run.

He hasn't failed to finish a slalom all season. Bang go his hopes of a third Pyeongchang gold medal.

Norway's Henrik Kristoffersen leads early on with Britain's Dave Ryding (below) still to come...

And those not familiar with Cammy Smith... here he is. Are we having that?

It's not quite on a Stormzy/Lukaku level, but we reckon there's more than a passing resemblance.

Thankfully, Team GB's Cammy Smith is on the ice for the men's curling team, although we had to double check after seeing this...

Approaching the halfway point in this round-robin play-off then - a semi-final place against Sweden at stake remember.

Britain will be trying to limit the Swiss - who have the hammer back - to just a point in this fifth end.

Well done Kyle Smith. Two lovely stones in that end - he has been superb, as has the whole team. A superb performance in the first four ends.

You couldn't wish for better start, they've been accurate, calm, assured and they have put Switzerland under early pressure. Great Britain are looking good.

  8. Hirscher aiming for third Pyeongchang goldpublished at 01:03 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2018

    Men's slalom

The overwhelming favourite for the men's slalom is Austria's Marcel Hirscher, who has already taken gold in the giant slalom and combined.

They do two runs in the slalom and the first of them has just got under way. Hirscher is aiming to become only the fourth alpine skier to win three golds at the same Winter Olympics.

You can watch what happens on the Red Button or above in this page.

Down to the crunch in this fourth end. Kyle Smith's penultimate stone takes out its Swiss rival in the house... beautiful.

Over to Swiss finisher Benoit Schwarz... oh dear! He's fluffs his lines, clipping the British guard and seeing his stone drift into the house. A sitting duck.

This should be bread and butter for Smith... yup, that's another two points for the British. Their fast start is turning into a sprint.

Chemmy Alcott and Graham Bell are getting ready to report on Dave Ryding’s race for BBC TV. Alcott shared a chairlift with Ryding this morning on the way to the course inspection. “He was very chilled but focused on the job in hand,” says Alcott. The first run gates have been set by Marcel Hirscher’s coach but Bell doesn’t believe there’s anything to catch anyone out. So what are their predictions? They’ve both gone with Hirscher gold, Kristoffersen silver and Ryding bronze.

Switzerland 1-2 Great Britain (after end 3)

British skip Kyle Smith appears to favour the Alex Ferguson school of management. Not giving out the hairdryer to his men, simply chomping hard on a piece of minty gum as he decides his tactics.

End four remains in the balance as it moves past the halfway stage, neither side yet to give a sighter to the other...

It's been a nice start for Great Britain. Switzerland gave up the chance of taking two in the last end, but what I really like is that the boys appear calm after yesterday and they're making those simple shots.

Swiss skip Benoit Schwarz has a little grin to himself after his penultimate stone. No wonder - he's nailed it.

A big shot seeming ends Britain's chances of getting a two, instead it looks like a blank end is as good as it is going to get.

Kyle Smith fires down his final stone... oooh, he looks a little anxious. Is it veering off left? Silence from his team-mates is not a good sign...

Don't panic lads. It's fine. Smith's stone clunks into the Swiss one, both flying out of the house. As you were.

We go again, is what British skip Kyle Smith might have been telling himself after yesterday's crushing loss to the United States.

And, after a few errors cost his team dear, he's picked himself up alright judging by these early moments against the Swiss.

If you missed yesterday's action, here's what happened:

They love their football here and the media heading to the men’s slalom have been catching up on last night’s Champions League football on the bus to the Yongpyong Alpine Centre.

Dave Ryding is a Liverpool fan so I don’t think he would have got up early to watch Manchester United’s 0-0 draw at Sevilla before his big race!

Switzerland 1-2 Great Britain (after end 2)

Switzerland dump a guard in front of the house with three stones left apiece, then take out a British one lurking on the left edge and ease into the middle themselves with their next stone.

Britain skittle that, but the Swiss almost make a monumental mistake trying to do the same with their penultimate stone. Kyle Waddell rubs the ice hard - like he's trying to get a ketchup stain out of his brand new white t-shirt - but the Swiss stone hangs in there.

However, it's still enough of a mistake to allow the Brits to escape the second end with only losing one point.
