Big air is all about the tricks - and landing them properly. James Woods had the tricks but can't make any of his first two runs stick and that's his chances of making the final gone.

He'll dust himself down to prepare for slopestyle - which is his favoured event anyway.

Still, it's been a great spectacle at Shougang and Team GB's youngest member - 17-year-old Kirsty Muir - looked very impressive in her qualification to make Tuesday's final.

Let's hear from GB's Alex Tilley following her two giant slalom runs.

"Truthfully it is a pretty honest reflection on training," she told BBC Sport.

"I can't be disappointed today - it's just too early."

On handling the recovery from injury, she added: "At the moment it's management, physio, icing, all the usual stuff.

"I had some amazing treatment at Bisham Abbey but like I said it's not my best that I am able to show today.

"I give what I can but it's not perfect."

It looks like James woods might have gone a touch early on the take-off.

It was a proper triple, double grab - and the commitment on that.

He was angry before he even hit the ground.

Not to be for James Woods.

He can't stick this landing either and that is his freeski big air competition over.

American Mac Forehand scores a huge 92.00 to burst into the qualifying spots, taking sixth.

Spaniard Javier LLiso follows that up with an 80.50 to edge just ahead of Forehand.

Now here comes James Woods. No room for error here!

American Alexander Hall still has the lead from Swedish pair Oliwer Magnusson and Henrik Harlaut.

12th-placed Birk Ruud's 145.00 is the qualification standard at present.

GB's James Woods will be up for his second run shortly, having scored 27.50 after falling at the end of his first run.

Oh it's MASSIVE from Edouard Therriault! Legs of iron, forged in Mordor.

Not even Chuck Norris could have stood up off that!

Big old jump that but 42? That sit-down on the landing absolutely crippled him there.

The main surprise so far is this season's in-form big air skier - Austria's Matej Svancer struggling to qualify.

The 17-year-old has won two out of the three World Cups yet he can't get it going at Shougang and is going to need a monumental third jump to scrape through into the final 12.

  9. What's still to come this morning?published at 07:06 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2022

GB's James Woods is going to need two big runs if he is to make the men's ski big air final after falling on his first attempt in qualifying.

Ellia Smeding will become the first female long track speed skater to represent GB at an Olympics since 1980 in speed skating's women's 1500m from 08:30 GMT.

And at 12:05, GB's mixed curling pair Bruce Mouat and Jen Dodds return for their semi-final against Norway.

"It feels amazing," he said. "So much went by in those last four years.

"The last time I was at the Olympics, in Pyeongchang, I got a silver medal, and then I had to go through cancer, it was a nightmare, it's so hard to describe what I've been through.

"You have no cardio, you have no energy, you have no muscles. To be back out here, at the Olympics, on a podium again but with a gold medal, it feels amazing."

One of the stranger stories of the day has come from the Wukesong Sports Centre.

The ice hockey match between Canada and Russian Olympic Committee was postponed, reportedly because Canada had not received Russia's COVID-19 results.

It is now under way, with Canada 4-0 up, however the players are all wearing masks to play.
