    Women's giant Slalom

    Matt Chilton
    Commentator on BBC TV

What a finish from Hector, she can't believe it.

She's had to wait so long for success and now at the age of 29 she is the Olympic giant Slalom champion.

  3. Gold for Hector (Sweden)published at 07:58 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2022

    Women's giant slalom

    Wow. What a finish.

Sara Hector was favourite coming into that run and she does not disappoint.

The Swede lays down a sensational run brimming with power and technique to whizz down the 'ice river' 0.28secs quicker than Federica Brignone.

  4. Brignone takes the leadpublished at 07:57 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2022

    Women's giant slalom

We have a new leader. Italy's Federica Brignone takes 0.44secs out of Lara Gut-Behrami's time from earlier.

    That was brilliant.

Now what can Austria's Katharina Truppe do about it? She's close after the first intermediate but slows in the second part of the course to move into third.

Love seeing Graham Bell on BBC duty. Takes me back to the days of Pirmin Zurbriggen and Alberto Tomba.

    Graham Bell
Five-time Olympic skier on BBC TV

It's really tough when you get a crash like that just puts the race on hold but the ski racers are used to it, they've been through this before.

You've got to just keep focused and go through that pre-race plan.

    Women's giant slalom

We've had a pretty long delay in the women's giant slalom after Nina O'Brien took a very heavy and awkward tumble.

Hopefully the 24-year-old American is okay.

Norway's Ragnhild Mowinckel, now under way to try and challenge Lara Gut-Behrami's leading time. She comes home 0.24 secs slower and goes into silver. That was close.

It's time for us to depart and leave you in the hands of Steve Sutcliffe and Deepak Mahay to guide you through the rest of the action on day three in Beijing.

Thanks very much for your company through the night!

  9. Valieva wins gold after landing historic jumppublished at 07:42 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2022

Russian 15-year-old Kamila Valieva has become the first female figure skater to land a quadruple jump at an Olympic Games, underlining her status as hot favourite for the women's event.

The Russian Olympic Committee had already sealed the gold medal ahead of the United States and Japan before she executed a wonderful quadruple salchow at the start of her free skate.

    Here's that routine in full.

Simo Peltola had two goes at trying to land on two skis, so he does it on one!

The pressure is on Finn Bilous - real renaissance skier.

That was the same trick, 1620, but tidied right up. He got the two grabs separated.

But his strength is slopestyle. His creativity is what pays off there.

    Men's big air qualification

A final 82.00 isn't enough to see New Zealander Finn Bilous break into the top 12.

What's this?!? That's madness from Simo Peltola, who somehow manages to successfully land his jump on one ski.

It feels like everyone has added another foot or two to their height

When it counts under pressure - Birk Ruud has knocked it so much out of the park.

Look at that! He goes eight points clear at the top.

  17. Ruud hits the frontpublished at 07:28 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2022

    Men's big air qualification

Unbelievable final run from Norwegian Birk Ruud.

A 93.25 isn't quite as good as his opening 94.50 - but it's more than enough to fire him to the top of the leaderboard!

A combined total of 187.75 with his best two runs. Superb!

    Speed skating - women’s 1500m

    Sonia Oxley
    BBC Sport in Beijing

I have just got to the National Speed Skating Oval, which is a beautiful new arena that has been built for these Games.

Also known as the Ice Ribbon, it has been built on the site where the hockey and archery were held at the 2008 summer Olympics.

In just over an hour we’ll be under way with the women’s 1,500m, where we’ll be seeing a Briton competing at the Olympics in this discipline for the first time in 30 years!

GB’s Ellia Smeding is in the first pairing with Taiwanese Huang Yu Ting.
