Men's team round-robin stage: Great Britain 6-5 Italy (after nine ends)

"This is scary," says Grant Hardie in discussion with skip Bruce Mouat as he prepares to deliver his stone. Quite.

A lot of chat as they mull over this. Hardies's stone is solid and accurate. Clearing the way into the house as Mouat takes over for the final two stones

That slipped through by the merest of margins. Italy skip Joel Retornaz can breathe a little sigh of relief. One in it going into the last.

    Britain with the hammer.

A mass of red British stones in the house. Italy with the final stone to try and gatecrash the party.

Joel Retornaz slips past the bouncers and lands on the button.

One point for Italy. But Great Britain head into the final end with last-stone advantage...

Bruce Mouat and his squad are in the groove now. A great steal, which means they are on course to have the final shot in the last end.

Some advanced calculus from Bruce Mouat as he plonks into the house and moves Great Britain into a position lying two with one stone to come.

Italy with the final stone. And they can't make the most of it,

One point for Great Britain. Two ends to come.

Curling Great Britain 5-4 Italy (after seven ends)

    Logan Gray
Former Scottish curler on BBC TV

Well maybe the door has just creaked back open for GB. Italy just over-curled there.

This shot is all about the weight really. Trying to find the balance to hit the yellow, but not risking the red-stone.

Tricky shot but certainly available for Bruce Mouat. But this is his strength - this kind of tap.

Just did enough - gets the job done and what a crucial score that is for GB, just taking the lead!

Bruce Mouat has got one stone - the final effort of the seventh end - to try and sway the scoreline.

"Hard, Bobby!" he shouts down the ice to sweeper Bobby Lammie. Lammie puts his shoulder to the grindstone, scrubbing like a teenager post house party. And his effort pays off.

Just enough shunt on the Italian stone to send it out of range and give Great Britain two points.

They lead for the first time in the contest.

Three GB stones to come here. They're in good shape but there is still some work to be done to secure a score.

Multiple points in the seventh end - which is what GB will be looking for.

Bruce Mouat's final stone clonks out the Italy yellow stone. Great Britain are lying two but skip Joel Retornaz just has to fade one into a wide open house to score with his final stone.

    He does,

GB will take that though with Italy having last-stone advantage.

Italy at this point deciding if they want to go aggressive and trying take a score, or play defensively.

There will be a stage where Team GB will hit those to reds and try and take away that yellow.

All level at the halfway point in Great Britain's curling opener against Italy.

But across the ice, there is a whole lot going on with United States' Matt Hamilton who wears specially modified Nikes for his Olympic campaign.

A gold medallist with the American men at Pyongchang in 2018, he is growing his hair as a fundraising effort for a cancer charity.

Not sure if the moustache is part of that effort or a pre-existing bit of facial fuzz.
