If you had told the Czechs they would be level 1-1 at the end of the second period, they would have bitten your hand off and smiled an awful lot.

It’s been a fascinating game of hockey.

Women's ice hockey quarter-finals - USA 1-1 Czech Republic (in third period)

Reigning holders USA are still at 1-1 in their quarter-final against the Czech Republic.

The Czechs scored with their first shot on target, while the US had more than 20 shots before equalising.

It's into the third period and will be live on the BBC Red Button. But the Czechs have just had a player advantage for five minutes and failed to score in that time. Will that come back to haunt them?

BBC Sport senior news reporter Laura Scott on the story surrounding Russian Olympic Committee figure skater Kamila Valieva, after the International Testing Agency confirmed the 15-year-old failed a drugs test in December:

"At the heart of this is a 15-year-old athlete. There are concerns over her welfare and the potential involvement of others in this.

"But viewers would be forgiven for feeling a sense of depressing deja vu that once again we are at an Olympics, there is a doping controversy and it involves Russia."

Mikaela Shiffrin's smile at the finish was as big as if she had won the race.

The American, who skied out of her past two races and at one point cast doubt on whether she would compete any more at Beijing 2022, had made it to the bottom of the women's super-G.

It did not matter that she finished ninth, this was about much more than that for the pre-Games favourite.

Switzerland's Lara Gut-Behrami won the race, becoming the first super-G world champion to also win the Olympic title.

Austrian Mirjam Puchner took silver and Swiss Michelle Gisin got the bronze.

Czech defending champion Ester Ledecka, who was going for a historic multi-sport double-double after retaining her snowboard parallel giant slalom title, finished fifth.

"We are all quite aware of what happens when you lose games and bouncing back, we've done it a lot at World Championships," the Scot said.

"I'm still looking forward to the game against Norway - if we play well, we will be in a really good spot, we've just got a few things to iron out.

"But this is only our second game in a few months, so still getting back to playing with the boys and just need to figure out a few more things."
