    USA 7-4 Switzerland

It wasn't looking great for USA - defending champions - in men's curling.

They had lost three of their opening five matches in the round robin stage. They've just beaten Switzerland 7-4 though to make it back-to-back wins.

They move fourth of the 10 teams in the standings. Four will go through. Two matches left each.

Canada's Marie-Michele Ganon producing a fine run. She's puts a late burst in to move into bronze position. Italy's Elena Curtoni still sitting pretty at the top but there are 28 more to come down the slope!

Ester Ledecka will not be getting another medal today. She slides onto one leg when rounding a bend and struggles to stay up, eventually finishing five seconds off the best time so far, set by Elena Curtoni of Italy.

Ester Ledecka is up next, she's still in with the chance of a double-double... in 2018 she became the first woman to claim gold medals in two sports at a Winter Olympics.

The Czech already retained her snowboard parallel slalom title at Beijing 2022. She finished fifth in the super-G last week but the downhill offers her another chance for history.

    Cross country skiing

    Anna Thompson
    BBC Sport in Beijing

The extremely low temperatures at Zhangjiakou National Cross Country Skiing Centre have forced Olympic organisers to shift the times of some races.

The men's and women's team sprint classic races on Wednesday have been brought forward to the day-time in China, in an attempt to avoid the drop in temperatures at night.

If it gets to -20C it would be deemed too cold to race.

The other athletes waiting to go will be watching at the top of the slope and learning from the athletes that go before them. There is a lot to learn here.

    Sonia Oxley
    BBC Sport in Beijing

Sofia Goggia is aiming to become only the second woman to defend their Olympic downhill title.

But the Italian's preparations have been hampered by injury after she crashed in a race last month and ended up on crutches for three days.

She only returned to the slopes at the weekend but said she had no serious pain in her knee, so that's encouraging for her.

Goggia has dominated the downhill in World Cup events this year, so if she's fit she has a great chance of becoming the first woman to win back-to-back downhill titles since Germany's Katja Seizinger in 1994 and 1998.

Downhill is the fastest of the alpine skiing events - and athletes have just one chance to get it right, there are no second runs here.

One run. Fastest time wins. Sounds simple.

    But it looks very steep!

"I don't think it even sunk in that I made finals yesterday and I still don't know if it has. Pretty stoked - I had a blast so that's what I'll take away. I've had such a good games, probably the best one I've ever had."

I am sat here and I am extremely proud of Kirsty. She has bee such an amazing skier over the last few weeks and really showed maturity in her skiing.

She has got to be so proud of everything she has done.

I think Summerhayes will be the same. Katie tried to really push it into the final run. There's a lot to be really stoked about.

    Women's freeski slopestyle final

    Team GB

Team GB's Kirsty Muir speaking to BBC: "I just wanted to go for it, I've made the finals and you wouldn't want to go to a competition and just cruise. Not going to lie I'm definitely a bit disappointed, the run was better until that second jump I just went a bit big - even though I took an extra speed check I think there was a little tail wind maybe. But I don't want to nlame anything, it was my skiing, I wanted to go for it.

"It's been an amazing experience, it's been awesome to ride with the girls and I've learnt so much."

Muir got a little emotional when conducting her BBC interview after her eighth-place finish. That interview will be in this live page next. Thanks for the shout out Sam.

So if you're just joining us, Switzerland's Mathilde Gremaud took gold in the women's freeski slopestyle final. She adds that to bronze in freeski big air at the Games.

The 22-year-old once said she has "always been a daredevil".

It's working for her, that's for sure.

Great Britain pulled off a dignified eighth - for Kirsty Muir - and ninth - for Katie Summerhayes.

  20. The weather report...published at 03:17 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2022

    Katie Falkingham
    BBC Sport in Zhangjiakou

It's another very cold day in Zhangjiakou, and unfortunately for my fingers and toes, it looks like it's going to stay that way for the rest of the week.

-21C is the reading on the mercury at the moment, with a 'feels like' temperature of -28C.

I'm very, very happy to have discovered the wonders that are hand and feet warmers on this trip. Those teabags are miracle workers.
