We have a new leader in the women's short programme figure skating.

Japan's Wakaba Higuchi, a 2018 World silver medallist, has gone comfortably clear at the top with a score of 73.51.

She did it while spinning, leaping and skating her way through Elton John's Your Song.

Kamila Valieva and the other highly-rated Russians are still to come.

    Men's aerials qualification

GB's Lloyd Wallace opened men's aerial qualification with an "incredible jump", but his score of 108.41 was only enough for 15th place as he failed to reach the final.

    Figure skating women's short programme

Team GB's Natasha McKay speaking to BBC Sport about her performance in the figure skating: "It's figure skating and mistakes will happen but after that mistake it was clean for me so it was an enjoyable experience to be out on the ice and finally become an Olympian.

"You have to refocus at the point and remember you've still got some jumps to do, don't let it slip this time then just go onto the next jump and take it one element at a time.

"It's been amazing just coming here and being an Olympian, I've enjoyed every minute of being here and I will remember it forever."

She took a tumble and is currently lying 18th in the standings.

A nice shot from Niklas Edin knocks out GB's stone and keeps it in flush with his other red to prevent Bruce Mouat going for the takeout.

He rolls in for one instead and it's a three-score game again.

    Men's qualification play-off

Two days after nine-time Olympic champions Canada beat China 5-0, the two sides meet again with a place in the quarter-finals on the line in the final men's hockey qualification play-off.

Who will win this time? Canada, presumably, but the Chinese have been more competitive than anticipated, with the high point their 3-2 defeat to 2018 silver medallists Germany, in which the hosts fought back from 3-0 down.

The action starts at 13:10 GMT and if the below pic from the previous meeting is anything to go by, it could get lively.

    Nicola Minichiello
Three-time Olympic bobsledder on BBC TV

A million different scenarios will have gone through Brad Hall's head, frustration, disappointment, panic, everything.

Brad knew he had to push it, he came off curve 13 just a little bit late, he had to fight for every single hundredth of a second and I'm just devastated for him.

Now it's about getting his head down, he can go for the fourth run he's still qualified, if not it's about focusing on the four-man.

    Men's curling - Sweden 1-3 Great Britain

    Thomas Duncan

Sweden are on the board with one as Niklas Edin chips Bruce Mouat's red stone out, but that's another result for GB.

They've got the hammer for the first time but are already 3-1 up.

Edin's accuracy is below 50%, which is incredible for him. It's because mostly when he's stepped up to the hack he's found himself facing tough shots.

Cliche alert...still a long way to go.

Could there be a surprise on Sheet B? Italy currently lead defending champions the USA 3-2 after three ends, while on Sheet C China lead Norway 3-1.

Inevitably, the skaters leaving the ice to walk past the waiting media are all being asked about the same thing - and it is rarely their own performances.

Sweden's Josefin Taljegard said she had tried not to be distracted by the Kamila Valieva case.

"Of course it’s a negative thing but me and my coach and everyone around me decided not to talk about it too much because I didn’t want that negativity around me," she told BBC Sport.

"And I tried to focus on my competition and what I’ve tried to bring, the positive things to the sport and trying to be a good role model. That’s what I’m focusing on.”

The GB boys have come to the party.

They've left Niklas Edin another tough last shot with the hammer and he's failed to come round the yellow stones to the button.

A steal of two now. This is top class from Bruce Mouat's side.

    Two-man bobsleigh

    John Jackson
Two-time Olympic bobsledder on BBC TV

I completely feel for Brad Hall and Nick, I went through this in 2010 and it broke my heart.

You are here, you are fighting, you are doing your best, you are representing your country.

The main thing is, other than damaged pride is the guys look really good. I just hope Brad can forget about this now over the next few days and step into the four-man and take that as a chance to bring the medal home.
