The scoreline has tightened a little but Great Britain are still well in command of this crucial curling round robin match against Japan.

They lead 8-4 in the eighth end.

GB began this match knowing a defeat could well end their hopes of progressing to the semi-finals, unless results really do go their way elsewhere.

A simple draw in for a cheeky one for Eve Muirhead. The lead is four with three ends to play.

If they restrict Japan to one here then they can probably rest a bit easier knowing they'll have the hammer in the ninth end and more control.

  5. Italy and Canada gain consolation winspublished at 08:05 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2022

China's men could not match the performance of their female counterparts, they were a humongous 9.37 seconds behind Italy in their classification race to finish last.

Two of the three Korea skaters are also competing in the mass start event so they effectively treated their C final against Canada as a training run in order to conserve energy. When it is only fourth and fifth at stake who can blame them? Canada very nearly lapped them on the final straight, with 13.8 seconds between them in the end.

Next up, it is medal time.

The bronze medal race in the women's team pursuit - the Russian Olympic Committee v the Netherlands - is first up at 08:22 GMT

    • Switzerland took gold medals in the women's downhill (Corinne Suter) and the women's freeski slopestyle (Mathilde Gremaud)
    • Britain's Kirsty Muir and Katie Summerhayes were in that slopestyle final but finished eighth and ninth respectively
    • Austria's Anna Gasser made it back-to-back Olympic golds for her country in snowboard big air
    • China has a new hero as 17-year-old Su Yiming won men's snowboard big air gold
    • British hope James Woods withdrew from the men's freeski slopestyle with injury
    • Britain's women are leading in a crucial curling round robin match right now
    • Meanwhile, Norway have just won another biathlon gold - this time in the men's 4x7.5km relay

"This feels insane. It's something I've never experienced before," says 17-year-old Su Yiming after winning gold for China in men's snowboard big air.

"I trained every day, for the past four years.

"Every night I was dreaming about this moment."

Incredible drama in the men's biathlon relay!

Norway have snatched another gold despite being miles behind - more than one minute and 40 seconds - at one stage.

The Russian Olympic Committee looked set for the win but Eduard Latypov had a shocker at the last trip to the shooting range meaning his team fell from clear leaders to third.

    France take silver.

It's gone a little quieter now in the Japanese team, they were starting to get a bit of confidence back and getting on better than how they started.

But for Great Britain, three up with four to play, they're in a very good position indeed.

Japan have edged their way back into this match, but they're forced to settle for one again and the deficit is three.

GB now have the hammer and a chance to potentially force some early fist-bumps.

Poland have the ignominy of taking home the wooden spoon in the women's team pursuit. They looked to give up halfway through against Belarus, who finish seventh.

China then absolutely demolished Norway to finish fifth. The gap was a hefty 3.82 seconds, with two of the three Norway skaters ending up on the deck as they crossed the line.

China must be wondering why they didn't turn out a performance like that in the quarter-finals.

We're three quarters of the way through this men's biathlon 4x7.5km relay.

I think I'll be hearing Johannes Thingnes Boe's name in my sleep before long. Yes, he's racing yet again, chasing a third gold (fourth medal of any colour) of the Games.

On the third leg he's dragged Norway back into contention but it's the Russian Olympic Committee who lead from France, Germany and then the Norwegians.

    One leg remains.

Oh dear, a first crucial mistake from Eve Muirhead. Her stone to remove Japan's yellow clips her own red and slides out of the house.

Satsuki Fujisawa then has the simplest of tasks to draw in for two to cut the deficit.

  16. ROC and Norway throughpublished at 07:11 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2022

    Men's team pursuit speed skating

What a performance from the Russian Olympic Committee! They finish in an Olympic record time of 3:36.62 to stun world record holders the USA and make it through to the final. 0.44 seconds was the difference in the end.

No such drama in the other semi-final. Norway were like a slick, well-oiled machine as they ease through. The Netherlands knew their fate with several laps still to go and seemed to go into energy preservation mode. 1.34 seconds the final gap.

So the Netherlands and USA go for bronze at 08:41 GMT before the gold medal final between ROC and Norway at 08:47.

Before that are the classification finals to decide fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth. They are coming up in about 15 minutes time.

  17. Where could a Team GB medal come from?published at 07:09 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2022

    Katie Falkingham
    BBC Sport in Zhangjiakou

Team GB won five medals at the last two Winter Olympics - in Sochi and Pyeongchang - but look set to fall way below that in Beijing.

Before the Games, UK Sport believed between three and seven medals could be won, but analysts Nielsen Gracenote predict only one will now go Team GB's way - a silver in men's curling.

Bruce Mouat's rink are currently second in the round-robin standings, having won five of their six matches so far. Mouat and partner Jen Dodds had been medal favourites in the mixed doubles event as reigning world champions, but finished fourth.

But where else could medals be won?

All eyes will be on the Yanqing zone over the next few days, as alpine skier Dave Ryding takes to the snow and Brad Hall's four-man bobsleigh team takes to the ice.

On Wednesday, Ryding will look to build on his maiden World Cup gold with a slalom medal at what is his fourth Winter Olympics. Then, come Saturday, Hall, Nick Gleeson, Greg Cackett and Taylor Lawrence will be eyeing the podium at the sliding centre, looking to add an Olympic medal to the three World Cup silvers they have already won this season.

In Zhangjiakou, freestyle skier Zoe Atkin will be keen to follow in her sister Izzy's footsteps on to the podium. Atkin - bronze medallist at the 2021 World Championships - goes in the halfpipe on Thursday and Friday, four years after her sibling won Team GB's first ever Olympic skiing medal.

So where might we win one? To answer this, I need to call on Katie Falkingham.
