    Nordic Combined

Jarl Magnus Riiber has been hunted down! It is Akito Watabe of Japan who is now in the lead with Germany's Manuel Faisst in third as we approach the halfway stage.

World champion Johannes Lamparter of Austria is among a group of five around six seconds back.

    This is anyone's race now.

    Nordic Combined

Ooh, an early mistake from Jarl Magnus Riiber! He goes down what will eventually be the finish line instead of the main course.

He quickly gets back on track but that will eat into his lead considerably and give the chasing pack some hope of hunting him down.

  5. Nordic Combined 10kmpublished at 10:33 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2022

The 48 competitors competed in a ski jumping event earlier this morning. Points earned from the ski jump have been converted into a time handicap for the 10km cross-country race, in which the winner of the ski jumping sets off first in a staggered start. There’s a four-second handicap for every point’s difference.

Norwegian Jarl Magnus Riiber was the winner by 11.1 points and so will set off first with a huge 44 second head start from Estonia's Kristjan Ilves and Japan's Yamamoto Ryota.

Riiber missed the normal hill event after testing positive for Covid-19. That gold medal was won by German Vinzenz Geiger, who overcame an 86-second deficit going into the cross-country phase.

He has a two minute, 15 second deficit to make up on Riiber this time after finishing 14th in the ski jump.

Reigning world large hill champion Johannes Lamparter of Austria, who was fourth in the normal hill event, sets off one minute, 27 seconds behind Riiber after finishing eighth.

  6. Nordic Combined to go aheadpublished at 10:31 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2022

It looks like the Nordic Combined 10km cross-country WILL go ahead as the temperature has not dipped under the threshold of -20 degrees.

I mean, that's still pretty chilly for you and me. It doesn't seem to bother the athletes though. They are made of stern stuff.

All the info you need about the event is coming right up....

    Snowboard men's Big Air final

Earlier today 17-year-old Su Yiming won the men's Big Air for China.

Su is a former child actor who starred in Chinese-Hong Kong action movie The Taking of Tiger Mountain when he was eight before deciding to drop acting for snowboarding.

"I have many different dreams but today's gold medal is the biggest dream I have ever had since I was young," said Su.

"For it, I had to give up acting because I need to focus completely."

You can tell there is something out of the ordinary about the interest in this figure skating session…

The press tribunes are rammed, there are more cameras pointing at the ice than we’ve seen here before… and the chocolate bar basket in the media lounge is empty.

I've had a scan down the planned music for each competitor in the women's short programme.

A bit of Elton John's Your Song is probably the highlight.

Before the figure skating at these Games became overshadowed by the Kamila Valieva failed drugs test, there was a lot of excitement about the quadruple jumps that she and some of her Russian Olympic Committee team-mates are doing.

Last week she became the first female skater to land one of these jumps, which are four rotations of the body mid-air, at an Olympics.

We won't see any today because quads are not allowed in the women's short programme.

    Women's singles short programme

This much-talked-about women's singles figure skating event is about to begin.

Today it is the short programme which must last two minutes and 40 seconds and include several set elements.

There are 30 competitors all looking to secure a place in the free skate. The top 24 qualify - or 25 if Kamila Valieva qualifies because of a late IOC change.

Great Britain's Natasha McKay will be eighth to go.

    Women's snowboard Big Air

We were so, so close to a bit of history earlier as Japan's Reira Iwabuchi almost pulled off the first front side triple at a Winter Olympics in the women's Big Air final.

In the end Iwabuchi finished fourth with Austria's Anna Gasser taking gold but even Gasser was cheering on her competitor...

"Even though maybe that meant I wouldn't be on top of the podium I wish she landed it," the Austrian said afterwards.

"We were on top and we were freaking out.

“I was so proud of her for trying that, she really chose progression in this event. I admired it.

"She went all out, and she didn't look at how much more points she needed for the podium. She just wanted to progress the sport."

This is what Britain's Kirsty Muir, whose best score of 71.30 came on her second run, had to say after her eighth-placed finish.

"Overall I'm just happy to be in the final but a little disappointed, just making a couple little mistakes.

"All the girls have been smashing it but I would have hoped that I could have been in the running.

"I've got a lot to work on, so it's really nice to have some time to do that.

"The sport is moving at a really fast rate, so I've got a lot to do to keep up with it but this gives me motivation to keep working."

Miss the women's freeski slopestyle earlier?

Mathilde Gremaud won gold for Switzerland but there were decent performances for the two British finalists.

Kirsty Muir, the 17-year-old Scot, finished eighth and Katie Summerhayes, a veteran at 26, came ninth.

If I was anybody looking after this child's wellbeing I would have had her out of here.

You want to get away, you want to find out and allow things to play out as need to be.

As it is she has trained very strongly here over the past few days whilst dealing with the media circus.

While a lot of the focus will inevitably be on Kamila Valieva, let's not forget we have a Briton competing in the figure skating too.

Scot Natasha McKay, 27, has been dreaming of competing at the Olympics since she was seven years old.

She will be the eighth of the 30 skaters on the ice and will skate to Song for the Little Sparrow.

She'll be aiming for a top-25 finish so that she makes it through to Thursday's free skate.

Let's hope she's put on her left skate first today - apparently she does that for good luck.

The officials are keeping a keen eye on the thermometer at the National Cross Country Centre.

If it stays ABOVE a toasty -20 degrees then the final of the Nordic combined will take place from 10:30 GMT.

If it gets any colder then the event will be postponed and the athletes can get inside in the warm for a cuppa.
