Ice hockey - women's gold medal game - Canada 3-2 USA

    Kent Simpson
    Commentator on BBC TV

Canada were a class act - even here in this final game they had everything it took. They came out and set the tone and if you just look at this celebration it's such an emotional release. Four years of work has built to this showdown against the Americans.

The Americans just have to stand and watch - a helpless and hopeless feeling.

Great scenes of celebration from the Canadian team, while at the other end the Americans are in tears. The highs and lows of sport.

Canada get revenge after losing to the US four years ago.

    Women's alpine combined - slalom

Over in the women's alpine combined, the USA's Mikaela Shiffrin has failed to finish for the third time in these Games.

In the alpine combined competition, Shiffrin posted 1.32.98 in the downhill, leaving her fifth, but has once again crashed out of the slalom.

She won gold medals at the slalom in 2014 and then in the giant slalom four years later, but failed to finish either of those events this year.

Ester Ledecka will not manage a second gold medal in Beijing as her 55.89 slalom run leaves her sitting in third, behind Switzerland's Wendy Holdener in first and Federica Brignone in second.

For the fifth time in seven Games, Canada are the women's ice hockey gold medallists.

They beat the United States, who had won gold four years ago, by a scoreline of 3-2.

Amanda Kessel pulled a second goal back for USA with only 13 seconds left, but Canada held on for gold.

Women's curling - ROC 0-2 Great Britain (after one end)

Eve Muirhead couldn't have wished for a much easier start. A draw to the button for two as the ROC leave the centre unguarded with GB already having a shiny yellow stone in there.

  6. GB take two-stone leadpublished at 06:22 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2022

Round-robin: Great Britain 2-0 ROC (after one end)

What a start from Eve Muirhead. The GB skip swings in another peach of a stone. Great Britain had the hammer in the opening end and have capitalised with a score of two.

They can't do anything about results elsewhere, but that is a good start in determining their own destiny.

Eve Muirhead's first stone is a beauty. Weighted perfectly, deftly plotted and dutifully swept.

    The spotlight swings to ROC...

    Round-robin: Great Britain 0-0 ROC

The first end is under way in the National Aquatic Centre. Vicky Wright looks concerned as she sends down her final stone. It is well short of the circle and not really cutting down the angles either.

ROC lie one with the two skips' stones to come for each team.

That looked good from China's Mao Bingqiang, the only man who can stop Gus Kenworthy from reaching a last Olympic final, but it's not enough.

Team GB's Kenworthy squeezes through to Saturday's final by the skin of his teeth!

    Women's curling - ROC v Great Britain (06:05)

    Thomas Duncan
    BBC Scotland in Beijing

Here are all the scenarios for who goes through in this round-robin. It's not quite as complicated as it looks, but still daunting.

'DSC' stands for 'Draw Shot Challenge'. Before every game two players from each team have tried to get a stone as close to the button as they can.

The distances are measured and averaged out over the whole round-robin, and then sides are ranked on who gets closest more often.

If head-to-head records are tied, then this becomes the deciding factor.

GB are sitting ok just now in those standings relative to who they'll be up against for a play-off spot.

Great Britain need to win this and then a big slice of luck with results elsewhere to get through to the semi-finals..

Eve Muirhead's team have won four and lost four of their eight pool stage matches.

That patchy record means their chances of making the last four and slim. And their poor showing in the tie-breaking draw stone challenge that is done through the week does them no favours either.

    That's the bad news.

The good news is they are up against a Russian Olympic Committee team that have lost all but one of their matches so far.

Finland's Jon Sallinen manages not to take out any cameramen on his second run, but he does take himself out.

A day to forget for him.

Gus Kenworthy is still sitting in the final qualification spot with five skiers to go, although only three of them could usurp him.

    Women's curling - ROC v Great Britain (06:05 GMT)

    Thomas Duncan
    BBC Scotland in Beijing

It's a must win here for Eve Muirhead and her team. Lose to the Russian Olympic Committee (the bottom side), and they're out.

Even if they win, they need a few results to go their way. Without going into excruciating detail, wins for Switzerland and Sweden will help their cause.

A win for Denmark against Canada would be helpful too, but that one is far less likely to happen.

Strap yourselves in, it's going to be tense.
