    Men's freeski halfpipe qualifying

    Ed Leigh
    Snowboarding commentator on BBC TV

Oh no! Gus Kenworthy won't be happy with that. He's just measuring himself, taking a look back up the pipe. It did look like quite a big hit.

He did lose a bit of early season because of covid, that is worth mentioning.

Gus Kenworthy looked a little nervous as he stood at the top of the pipe.

Oh no! He falls after his second trick, doing the splits and landing on his back. He shrugs as he's handed a 8.50 score. All to do on the second run now.

Canada's Brendan Mackay currently tops the standings with a score of 87.25 for his first run.

  6. Canada two uppublished at 04:42 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2022

Ice hockey - women's gold medal match - Canada 2-0 USA (first period)

Canada double their lead and it's their captain Marie-Philip Poulin who fires past Alex Cavallini in the USA goal and the holders find themselves two goals behind.

Things then get even worse for the States as their captain, Kendall Coyne Schofield, gets sent to the penalty box for two minutes for delaying the game.

I don't think either side getting blown away is an option in this game and the USA don't need to score right away but they've got to get a bit of pressure on Canada.

They've had the one opportunity and that's really it - they've got to get a few little things going to feel good about their game right now. It could very easily be 2-0 right now.

Maybe the USA just need to get some small plays going to get into this - for the first part it's really all been Canada.

Ice hockey - women's gold medal match - Canada 0-0 USA (first period)

Canada's Natalie Spooner thinks she has opened the scoring in the gold-medal match, but after a video check the goal is ruled out for offside.

Just like in football, the video check takes ages, but USA are the happy ones and we remain at 0-0.

    Men's freeski halfpipe qualifying

    Katie Falkingham
    BBC Sport in Zhangjiakou

It's been a rough few months for Gus Kenworthy. A bout of Covid, another concussion, and then the twisties. You'll remember that word getting thrown around a lot during the Tokyo Olympics last summer, when gymnast Simone Biles suffered from the feeling of getting lost during the air.

Not ideal when you're launching yourself metres above an icy halfpipe, but thankfully, Kenworthy told me he hasn't suffered from it since December and is confident going into competition today.

"I feel very confident which is amazing because a month or two ago I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to do it," he said.

"So to be here and skiing well and feeling good and healthy and confident is incredible. I feel really grateful for that.

"I was training pretty hard up until the concussion and even since then recently, so I do feel pretty confident that I can do well. I just have to put my run down."

It is the greatest rivalry in all of women's hockey right now - this is what we've been waiting for. At the start of the Olympics everyone thought it would be the gold medal match but until you get here you can't predict it and we're in for a beautiful game here.

    Women's alpine combined - downhill

After the downhill section of the women's alpine combined, Austrian Christine Scheyer sits top of the leaderboard. But it is very tight, with the Czech Republic's snowboarding superstar Ester Ledecka just 0.01 second behind her. Austria's Ramona Siebenhofer sits third.

USA's Mikaela Shiffrin is fifth after questioning her future at the Olympics last week when she crashed out of the slalom, failing to finish a second alpine skiing race in a row.

The skiers will take to the slalom in a few hours, where their time there will be combined with their downhill effort to determine the medals.
