It was a bit smaller in the amplitude but Zoe Atkin had a really nice technical run there.

Great start out of the bat - she looks pleased with that one.

Zoe Atkin looks pleased as punch with that run, and she gets a hug from Eileen Gu at the end of it.

85.25 puts her in fourth position in these early stages of qualifying, and that's a very good place to be for the British world bronze medallist.

    Women's freeski halfpipe qualifying

    Ed Leigh
    Snowboarding commentator on BBC TV

Eileen Gu has said before that she struggles more with the nerves in qualifying than the finals - but that doesn't seem to be the case here today.

  5. 'Gu makes her mark'published at 01:39 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2022

    Women's freeski halfpipe qualification

    Katie Falkingham
    BBC Sport in Zhangjiakou

Wow, 93.75 - Eileen Gu makes her mark.

She shows little reaction to that score. China's 'snow princess' expects nothing less than the best.

    Women's freeski halfpipe qualification

China's Eileen Gu has already won a gold and a silver in these Games - in the big air and slopestyle respectively - and is going to be safely through to the final with a mammoth 93.75

Men's curling - Canada 2-2 Great Britain (after two ends)

    Thomas Duncan
    BBC Scotland in Beijing

Bruce Mouat's final shot is an attempt to raise his own stone into the house at the expense of a Canadian one.

Unfortunately it doesn't come off, and Canada skip Brad Gushue draws in to level the match,

    Women's freeski halfpipe qualification

Some of the most stunning images of these Games came from the snowboard halfpipe events and now its the turn of the skiers.

We have 20 entrants, they all get two runs and their best score counts with the top 12 advancing.

Two very strong runs to open proceedings in halfpipe qualifying from the United States' Hanna Faulhaber and Canada's Rachael Karker.

They score 84.25 and 88.50 respectively. Eileen Gu is up next.

    Women's freeski halfpipe qualifying

    Jenny Jones
2014 Olympic bronze medallist snowboarder on BBC TV

Zoe Atkin is not as technical as some of the top riders but she is so consistent and she has really strong solid grabs and that's what is in her favour here.

I definitely think she will qualify through to the finals - she has fresh legs, she hasn't done any other contests previous to this and that's an advantage, coming in with a positive mindset.

    She looks great in practice.

Men's curling - Canada 0-2 Great Britain (second end)

    Thomas Duncan
    BBC Scotland in Beijing

Canada are lying three with the hammer as we get down to the final two stones each.

With his first, GB skip Bruce Mouat manages to remove two of them. They're still in a tight spot, though.

  12. 'Gu will be disappointed with anything less than gold'published at 01:32 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2022

    Women's freeski halfpipe qualifying

    Jenny Jones
2014 Olympic bronze medallist snowboarder on BBC TV

Eileen Gu is coming in as the favourite because she hasn't lost any halfpipe contests she has been in in the last year. But this is the third event she has been in now, has she considered the fatigue in her legs, has she managed that well.

This is Gu's favourite event - she definitely feels relaxed when she's in this event if you watch when she's riding she goes so big and her tricks are very technical. If she was to pick one event it would be this - anything less than a gold I think she will be disappointed.

These youngsters coming in they have got fire in their bellies - the Canadians, the Americans - the excitement is building for this qualification.

Men's curling - Canada 0-2 Great Britain (after one end)

    Steve Cram
    Curling commentator on BBC TV

It's always a nice way to start - there was a chance of a three for Great Britain but that first stone of Bruce Mouat's just spun out. Canada may think that's OK and could've been worse - but GB will be happy with that.

That's exactly what you want to do when you have the hammer is get your two on the board.

  18. 'GB always start fast'published at 01:21 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2022

Men's curling - Canada 0-2 Great Britain (after one end)

    Thomas Duncan

The GB boys always start fast, and Bruce Mouat has a straightforward takeout to make sure they take two in the first end. The Scot makes it, no problem.

    On a roll.

Men's curling: Canada 0-2 Great Britain (after one of 10 ends)

Bruce Mouat's quartet make a great start as, with the hammer, they take a 2-0 lead after the opening end, thanks to his accurate last stone that bumps the red Canadian one out of the house and it's GB up by two.

  20. Atkin bids for final spotpublished at 01:19 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2022

    Women's freeski halfpipe qualifying

    Katie Falkingham
    BBC Sport in Zhangjiakou

She's had a 13-day wait but finally GB freestyle skier Zoe Atkin gets her Olympic campaign under way today.

The 19-year-old competes in halfpipe qualification, hoping to book her spot in tomorrow's final.

Recognise the surname? She's the younger sister of Izzy Atkin, who won Team GB's first Olympic skiing medal four years ago. Unfortunately, Izzy has had to pull out of these Games after failing to recover from breaking her pelvis in December, but she has stayed in China to watch her little sis.
