Women's gold-medal match: Great Britain 2-0 Japan (after one end)

    Jackie Lockhart
Four-time Olympic curler on BBC TV

Eve normally likes to play a very offensive game. She will push as hard as she can to put pressure on the opposition.

But one thing about playing offensively is that your team have to be playing the shots for you.

Women's gold-medal match: Great Britain 2-0 Japan (after one end)

Back at the aquatics centre, GB have given Japan a little something to think about as Vicky Wright's stone is swept in by Jen Dodds and Hailey Duff to offer protection to the sole yellow in the house.

Wright's second shot rests perfectly on the button. Japan will attempt to send those stones clear next... but it doesn't come off. Half a chance for GB.

    Four-man bobsleigh

The four-man bobsleigh competition will be resuming shortly over in Yanqing.

GB are in medal contention at the halfway stage, but it looks like Team Hall are going to need to produce two near-perfect runs to stand a real chance of making the podium.

It looks like a lovely day for it too...

Japan have two reds lying in the house as Eve Muirhead lines up her first shot.

Nice shot from the British skip, resting in front of Japan's central red.

Satsuki Fujisawa returns the favour, but there's a chance for Muirhead to remove it here...

    Rhona Howie
Olympic gold medallist curler on BBC TV

Eve Muirhead is a very dedicated leader, she’s got great leadership skills.

What is great about her is that she gets the best out of every single player in her team. She holds them together as a unit really well.

She has fought for this all her life, she has curled from such a young age - following in her father’s footsteps.

To get to this point is such a huge boost for her.

Jen Dodds steps up to the plate, but her shot catches Japan's outlying guard and falls short of the house.

Chinami Yoshida makes the same mistake with her next shot and there's a wall of stones in front of the house now.

For the final time the traditional musical introduction to a curling match - Scotland the Brave on the bagpipes - rings out at the Ice Cube.

Head piper Zhang Ali has spent eight years learning to play and is extremely proud to be performing at the Olympic Games.

There are so many Japanese journalists here covering their team.

Satsuki Fujisawa and her team are quite the heroes back home after bronze in 2018.

They're also incredibly positive and smiley when they play, earning them a lot of friends in the sport.

They're looking to cause an upset today though!

  16. Third time lucky for Muirheadpublished at 00:59 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2022

    Women's gold-medal match: Great Britain v Japan

After losing consecutive semi-finals in 2014 and 2018, Eve Muirhead has finally reached the Olympic final in Beijing.

"It is third time lucky, Muirhead told BBC Sport. "I've lost two semi-finals before and I was desperate for it. These moments and opportunities don't come around very often.

"I'm so proud of these girls. It is such a team game and all week we have dug so deep."

The Ice Cube has been the venue with the most action - there’s been curling here every day since 2 February - before the Games officially began!

One match left and it’s Great Britain against Japan for the women’s gold medal.

I was at Ogden Ice Sheet in Salt Lake City 20 years ago when Rhona Howie clinched that memorable gold with the “stone of destiny”.

Can history repeat itself today for Great Britain and Eve Muirhead?

    Women's gold-medal match: Great Britain v Japan

I'm sure there are a few people out there who haven't quite recovered from the semi-final drama yet.

A disastrous opening end. A sensational score of four from Eve Muirhead in the ninth. A Sweden fightback to force a tense final end.

It had a bit of everything.

They will be excited, they were really smiling in practice and looked relaxed and happy.

They will be nervous, of course there will be nerves, but they will be good nerves.

As soon as they get on the ice they will forget those nerves and they’ll play the game they want to play.

    Women's gold-medal match: Great Britain v Japan

Four years ago, it was Japan who ended Eve Muirhead and her team's hopes winning a medal in the women's bronze-medal match.

Muirhead was unable to score on her final shot as Japan prevailed 5-3 to secure a first ever Olympic curling medal for their nation.

Will it be a different story today?
