Summary

  1. Round fivepublished at 21:23 BST 25 October

    Jandiroba v Dern

Jandiroba throws everything into another takedown attempt and is successful for the ninth time - is that going to be enough to convince the judges? Dern throws up her legs to attempt a triangle submission but Jandiroba is wise to it.

Dern has some bruising under her right eye now and there is blood pouring down her face. Jandiroba is also bleeding from the eye and nose.

They are both leaving it all out there.

Jandiroba misses with a spinning back-fist and Dern pounces to secure he first takedown of the fight. Dern finishes with some ground and pound.

I have no sense of who is winning this fight right now. It's very close.

Two very similar messages from corners as the fighters prepare to come out for the fifth and final round of this strawweight title contest.

Dern's corner tell her "this is your moment" and Jandiroba's team say "give it everything".

  4. Round fourpublished at 21:17 BST 25 October

    Jandiroba v Dern

Dern stuffs a couple of early takedowns and starts to flow with the hands.

It's tiring to constantly shoot for takedowns and Jandiroba has attempted 13 in this contest with seven of those, including one late in this round, successful.

Dern has the chance to get straight back to her feet but seems worried she will get caught on the way back up. There are only a couple of seconds left on the clock and the bell comes to her rescue.

Could be 2-2 or could be 3-1. Tough fight to call right now.

  5. Round fourpublished at 21:14 BST 25 October

Dern seems to have given up on those leg kicks, but she was doing a good job with them. Jandiroba just needs to focus on these takedowns.

  6. Gane's athleticism 'biggest challenge' for Aspinallpublished at 21:14 BST 25 October

    Paul Battison
    BBC Sport in Abu Dhabi

I spoke to UFC analyst and commentator Laura Sanko yesterday and she gave me her thoughts on Tom Aspinall against Ciryl Gane.

"If Ciryl is able to use his footwork the way you assume he's going to plan to do, we might see a fight where Tom goes past the first round - even past the second, third, fourth and into the fifth," said Sanko.

"And that's what's fascinating to me - if Ciryl is able to be elusive, what does that look like for Tom?

"On the flipside, how elusive can any giant man be in an octagon? There is certainly the possibility that the second Tom Aspinall is able to shoot and get his hands on Ciryl Gane, it might look a lot like his [Gane's] fight against Jon Jones.

"But what's exciting is both of those possibilities are on the table and I do think Ciryl Gane is the biggest challenge for Aspinall right now because of his athleticism."

Jandiroba is sporting some serious damage under her right eye and has a huge welt after failing to deal with Dern's jab.

She might want to get this fight down to the ground quickly in round three and look for top control.

Dern is stuffing the takedowns now, though, and looks a lot more comfortable.

Jandiroba finally secures one after a long battle - it's her 11th attempt of the fight - and spends the rest of the round on top but without landing too many shots.

  9. Record-breaker Aspinallpublished at 21:05 BST 25 October

A graphic showing the most finishes from active UFC heavyweights says 'Derrick Lewis 16', 'Curtis Blaydes 8', 'Tom Aspinall 8', 'Alexander Volkov 7', Tai Tuivasa 7'

Just nine fights into his UFC career, Tom Aspinall already boasts several impressive records.

    • 2 minutes and 2 seconds - shortest average fight time in UFC history.
    • 8.07 - highest number of significant strikes landed per minute in UFC heavyweight division history.
    • 0:01 - least bottom position time in UFC history
    • 4.09 - highest knockdown average per 15 minutes in heavyweight division.

Aspinall still has some way to go to try and knock Derrick Lewis off top spot for the most finishes for an active heavyweight, but another one tonight will see him pull clear of Curtis Blaydes into second spot.

  10. Round twopublished at 21:03 BST 25 October

    Jandiroba v Dern

Dern continues to pick Jandiroba off with quick hands. Her jab is looking especially menacing but Jandiroba just smiles as she walks right on to one.

It's playing out in a similar fashion to the opening round as Jandiroba secures another takedown but she can't pass Dern's guard and is struggling to land cleanly with her punches.

After a brief stint back on the feet, Jandiroba gets another takedown and moves into half guard before unloading with several hammer-fists. Dern manages to shake the Brazilian back into guard and then fights her off with some kicks from the floor.

  12. Aspinall oozing confidence during fight weekpublished at 20:59 BST 25 October

    Paul Battison
    BBC Sport in Abu Dhabi

Tom Aspinall's team told me he had to do 18 interviews in a single day on Tuesday.

When you're the UFC heavyweight champion, everyone wants a piece of you.

Nevertheless, Aspinall was in good spirits for his interview with BBC Sport and as he usually does during fight week, was oozing confidence while laughing and joking with his team.

The team were discussing Aspinall's open workout that evening, suggesting he would do some dancing instead.

I couldn't go, so unfortunately can't confirm whether this took place or not...

The first meeting between Jandiroba and Dern in 2020 very highly competitive and it looks like we could have another tight contest on our hands tonight.

Dern looks really strong on the feet, landing solid shots and she's smiling while executing them too.

Jandiroba wants this fight to take place on the ground - she has 14 submission wins on her record - and gets a takedown before controlling Dern briefly without causing too much damage.

  14. From £20 in the bank to headlining UFC - Aspinall's storypublished at 20:56 BST 25 October

    Aspinall v Gane

Back in 2022 and ahead of headlining his second UFC main event, Tom Aspinall sat down with BBC Sport to tell his story from having just £20 in his bank account to topping the card.

Aspinall is preparing to headline his fourth UFC bill tonight and has the world at his feet.

A graphic showing the results of Ciryl Gane's last five fights in the UFC says 'SD v Volkov', TKO 2 v Spivac', Sub 1 v Jones', 'KO 3 v Tuivasa' and 'UD v Ngannou'

Ciryl Gane arrived in the UFC just 11 months before Tom Aspinall and has also enjoyed a spell as interim heavyweight champion.

The 35-year-old beat Derrick Lewis in 2021 to get his hands on the belt but came up short in his next fight against undisputed champion Francis Ngannou.

Gane bounced back to beat Tai Tuivasa but fell to his second career loss against champion Jon Jones.

The Frenchman is not one to let defeat throw him off track, though, and has since won successive bouts to earn a third title shot.

UFC legend and coach Khabib Nurmagomedov has offered some words of advice to the heavyweight champion before his title defence.

Speaking to Aspinall ahead of the fight inside the Etihad Arena, Khabib said: "Focus. Sometimes you use boxing separate, wrestling separate. Use everything together, wrestling, boxing, pressure. Because [Gane] doesn't have this ability. He is a striker, he moves good, good footwork, but when you use boxing and takedowns, you'll be much better."

The former UFC lightweight champion was in the corner for cousin Umar Nurmagomedov's unanimous decision victory over Mario Bautista.

Tom Aspinall has dazzled us with his outfits this week - his Miami Vice-style suit at Thursday's news conference was the highlight - and he's got another treat in store for us tonight.

The UFC have provided the heavyweight champion with some custom-made fight Union Jack fight shorts.

If you look carefully you can also see a bee on his left thigh in a nod to Manchester.

The bee is Manchester's most famous symbol, representing the city's hard work and industrial past.

    Thoughts on the shorts?

  20. McCann & Aspinall build their ultimate UFC fantasy fighterpublished at 20:48 BST 25 October

Prior to making his comeback from a serious knee injury in July 2023, Tom Aspinall joined Molly McCann, who has since retired from MMA and transitioned into boxing, to build their ultimate fantasy fighter.

We've had a fair few new fighters emerge over the past two years - Ilia Topuria is one that springs to mind - so how do you think their selections stand up now?
