The medium tyres of George Russell are 56 laps old, while the car chasing his Mercedes in sixth has just pitted for a gleaming set of the hard rubber.

Verstappen with new hard tyres is cruising up to the back of George Russell who wasn't able to pit because the gap wasn't there for him.

A burst of hard energy hands Lewis Hamilton a latest lap in the 1:14s, awarding the seven-time world champion with the fastest lap stopwatch next to his name. George Russell, meanwhile, is being hunted down by the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.

The fastest lap of the race goes to champions leader Max Verstappen, who has just clocked a time in the 1:15s on his fresh set of hard tyres.

George Russell is running in fifth place but the Mercedes man is yet to pit. If he comes in now for a tyre swap, he will come out behind the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.

"Why didn't you tell me the outlap was critical?"

An overtake! Valtteri Bottas and his Sauber offer us some excitement by passing the Williams of Logan Sargeant for 13th place.

Lewis Hamilton peels out of the pits and he's gone onto the hard compound tyre.

And in comes Max Verstappen. The Dutchman also switches to his original hard tyres and enters the track back in sixth place.

The pits are seeing some action as Lewis Hamilton makes his way in for a tyre changeover. The seven-time world champion goes back onto the hards and rejoins the action back in seventh place.

Lance Stroll has had contact with something because the rear left tyre rubber has just flown off. He's made it back to the pits.

Lance Stroll says he has picked up a puncture on his left rear and the Canadian has to pit with damage! The tyre rubber ends up at the pit entry, avoiding the need of a virtual safety car.

A quick update on Esteban Ocon's penalty.

Ocon was given a 10-second penalty, which the FIA have converted to a drop of five grid positions for the next race in which the driver will participate, which would be the Canadian Grand Prix.

Ocon will also get two penalty points. He'll have a total of three points so far for the 12 month period.

None of the four at the front of this field want to pit, they all want to be able to get to the end, certainly Charles Leclerc who leads this race.

Poor Charles. The Monegasque driver asks his pit wall if they want to know the margins out on track. Unfortunately, a firm "no, Charles," comes the reply from his engineer Bryan Bozzi. All in good jest, though.

That fastest driver would be Valtteri Bottas in the Sauber down in 16th spot. Out at the head of the field, Charles Leclerc is 1.4 seconds ahead of second-placed Oscar Piastri with team-mate Carlos Sainz in third.

Mike Gatt: The driver with the fastest lap has been lapped.

The track is narrow and the cars are wide, if you drive it sensibly with an eye on the mirrors then you should be OK.

Esteban Ocon is out of this Monaco Grand Prix and the Alpine driver has taken to X to give his side of the story: "Today’s incident was my fault, the gap was too small in the end and I apologise to the team on this one. Hoping for a deserved points-finish for the team today."
