Elancourt Hill, or Colline d’Elancourt, is built on a former quarry and is the highest point in the Paris region at 231m. Some 95% of the mountain bike trails here are based on existing paths, but the course isn’t a favourite of the riders, with Britain's Evie Richards saying last week: "We like a natural course that changes with the conditions.

"It won't be muddy, I don't think it can turn muddy, but they've done the best they can with how close it is to Paris - it's not easy to pop up a mountain bike course anywhere.

"If I had designed it, I would have more natural features, not man-made, but I think we normally see that in an Olympics compared to a World Cup where you're in the Alps or a ski resort somewhere.

"There's just one line to take. Normally there's lot of different lines and you can choose...It's probably easier to learn but there's less choice when you come to race."

Giles bows out in judo second roundpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 28 July

A devastated Chelsie Giles spoke to BBC TV after being knocked out in the second round of the women's -52kg judo. She won bronze for Team GB at the Tokyo Olympics: "You put in a lot of work and it can be done in a second, that's how judo works, you only get one chance.

"Once it gets to Golden Score, it's just about getting the score.

"I thought I was getting a bit better in the fight and I just got caught so there is not much I can do."

Team GB's Eccles beaten by Rygielska

    Steve Bunce
Boxing expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

I'm genuinely shocked, I'm stunned. I really did think she'd [Rosie Eccles] get it. That was a brutal outcome.

We've got independent judges here. They went with the one who got deducted a point and she actually fouled. The two judges who had it even voted for the woman who had an infringement. I'm really annoyed. It's a bad decision.

Eccles loses by split decisionpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 28 July

    Women's 66kg boxing

    Big shock!

Great Britain's Rosie Eccles is out of the women's 66kg boxing after a split-decision loss to Poland's Aneta Rygielska.

Eccles was on the front foot throughout the three-round bout but after edging the first on the judges scorecards, the Welshwoman was deemed to be second best to Rygielska in the next two.

The Pole was deducted a point late in the third round for failing to keep her head up but, despite that, both judges that scored the fight even at 28-28 called it in favour of Rygielska.

Only one judge actually had Rygielska ahead on the scores, 29-27, while two gave it to Eccles, 30-26 and 29-27.

Lots of British interest today - including the start (and perhaps end) of Andy Murray's farewell.

    In the singles, we have:

Dan Evans v Tunisia's Moez Echargui (starting shortly on court 10)

Cameron Norrie v Netherlands' Tallon Griekspoor (after Evans about 13:30 BST)

Katie Boulter v Slovakia's Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (about 15:00 BST on court 11)

Jack Draper v Japan's Kei Nishikori (starting in about an hour on court 12)

Then, about 19:00 BST, Murray and Evans team up in the men's doubles on Court Suzanne Lenglen against Japanese pair Nishikori and Taro Daniel.

Away from the Brits, we have Rafael Nadal (possibly) and Coco Gauff headlining on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Today it’s the turn of the women, with 2021 world champion Evie Richards and Ella Maclean-Howell flying the flag for Team GB, before Tom Pidcock defends his Olympic title tomorrow.

The riders will do seven laps of a 4.4km course before coming down this finishing straight to the line.

Smiles from Biles after barspublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 28 July

Huge smiles, hugs and waves to the crowd from Simone Biles after she finishes another routine, this time on the uneven bars.

It has been a delight to watch her and while her score of 14.433 on bars might not get her a place in the apparatus final, the reaction from her there doesn't look like there is much room for concern over the niggle.

She gets through all four routines, USA are looking strong, and the world's best is back.

GB rowers impresspublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 28 July

It has been another busy morning in the rowing at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium, with plenty of Team GB athletes in action.

In the women’s pair heats Great Britain’s duo of Chloe Brew and Rebecca Edwards finished fourth in their heat so will need to come through the repechage if they are to progress.

In the men’s pair, Tom George and Ollie Wynne-Griffith won their heat to safely make it through to the semi-finals. The pair are unbeaten in 2024 and are attempting to emulate Matt Pinsent and Steve Redgrave – the last British men’s pair to win gold in 1996.

In the Lightweight women’s double sculls, Emily Craig and Imogen Grant are safely through to the semi-finals. They missed the podium in Tokyo by one-tenth of a second but have remained unbeaten ever since, winning back-to-back world and European titles and every World Cup they have raced at.

Helen Glover, Rebecca Shorten, Esme Booth and Sam Redgrave eased through to the final of the women’s four. They are favourites for the gold medal after winning two World Cups and the European Championships.

Britain’s men’s four also safely made it through to the final after finishing second behind New Zealand in their heat. Oliver Wilkes, David Ambler, Matt Aldridge and Freddie Davidson are world and European champions and favourites to retain the title they lost in Tokyo. Team GB had won five consecutive golds in this event prior to that.

Fintan McCarthy and Paul O’Donovan made history in Tokyo as the first Irish rowers to win an Olympic gold in any event. The three-time world champions won their Lightweight men’s double sculls heat to reach the semi-finals.

    Will he? Won't he?

That's been the question at Roland Garros this morning over Rafael Nadal and his participation in the men's singles.

The legendary Spaniard has been struggling with a thigh injury and, although he got through the doubles yesterday evening alongside Carlos Alcaraz, it is uncertain whether he will play against Hungary's Marton Fucsovics.

They are due on Court Philippe Chatrier after the opening match between Nadal's team-mate Sara Sorribes Tormo and Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic.

Nadal, who practised this morning, has not pulled out yet. In theory, he has until walking out on court to make a decision and allow an alternate to come in.
