There was only one place everyone in the arena was looking just now and my gosh, it was worth it.

That triple spin! Most gymnasts can only do two. That dismount!

But of course, this is Biles. And she is most definitely back.

She's trying to calm her senses and get into her inner zen. The whole stadium are watching Simone. Solid as a rock and she's really showing why she's the best in the world at gymnastics. This amount of pressure and it's not fazing her. What a way to start off the competition for America. Wow, what a performance from Simone Biles.

Simone Biles doesn't hesitate. She shows acrobatic skills and absolutely nails it.

She moves so fast and keeps control on the apparatus. You have to show mastery on your apparatus and she completes it with an unbelievable dismount.

What a routine. All the pressure in the world.

She [Simone Biles] calls it the twisties. When you want to do a certain skill but your mind is trying to do something else then it's dangerous, especially at the level Simone is at. She is phenomenal. She looks in great shape. She is the Usain Bolt of this sport.

  10. What skills does Simone Biles have named after her?published at 10:48 British Summer Time 28 July

    Sonia Oxley
    BBC Sport in Paris

Simone Biles already has five elements named after her - two vaults, two floor tumbling skills and a beam dismount.

Only Soviet five-time Olympic champion Nellie Kim has more, with seven.

Biles' most recent eponymous skill - the Biles II vault - was on show in podium training at the Bercy Arena in Paris on Thursday, where she landed it perfectly.

She only added this skill - a Yurchenko double pike - last year and so if she performs it at these Games that would also be an Olympic first.

The five skills she has named after her are:

Biles on floor: Double layout with half-twist ie a double somersault in stretched position with a half twist (named after her in 2013)

Biles II on floor: Triple-twisting double somersault (named after her in 2019)

Biles on vault: Round-off on to springboard, back handspring with half-turn on to vault, followed by double-twisting somersault in stretched position (named after her in 2018)

Biles II on vault: Round-off on to board, back handspring on to vault, then double somersault in piked position (named after her in 2023)

Biles on beam: Double-double dismount ie a double-twisting, double somersault backwards off beam at end of routine (named after her in 2019)

China, Germany, Algeria, Israel and Italy have just been cheered into the Bercy Arena but the place erupts when USA are presented. And then when Simone Biles' name itself is announced, it goes through the roof. This is going to be brilliant.

Biles and USA will be starting on beam - which is the last piece the world's most decorated competed on at an Olympics. She came back from the 'twisties' in Tokyo to get that emotional bronze medal on beam.

Leon Marchand is a class apart, I would think he is going in to that final tonight as clear favourite and I can't see anybody touching him.

Max [Litchfield] was phenomenal, it was very close to what he did at the trials back in April.

His last two Olympics he finished fourth but I would love to see him get a medal in this one. Everyone would. That 400m individual medley is a beast of an event. It is horrible.

It just built and built as the Frenchman pulled clear.

On the breaststroke leg each time the Marchand’s head bobbed above the water he was greeted by huge cheers of “Allez!”

Britain’s Max Litchfield swam very well to come in not too far behind in second.

They go through as the sixth and 11th fastest for tonight's semi-finals where the fastest eight progress to the final.

Romania's David Popovici, 19, who broke onto the scene by winning two freestyle world titles in 2022 set the pace.

Simone Biles had a very tough Olympics in Tokyo, picked up the twisties which is where you get lost in the air. She pulled out of most of the competition after that.

She took a couple of years off and got married and she did the World Championships last year. She is looking so strong.

She has got five skills already after her and she is looking to put a sixth in to that. She is definitely looking to write her own ending to the story.

She is not just a gymnastics star, she is a global sports star and I think a lot of people will be looking at how this story can end. She has been looking amazing in training and I can't wait to watch her.

    Team Bermuda

Hopefully you'll forgive me for being a little shocked to see a group of pink shirts with Team Bermuda printed on when I arrived at La Defense.

They have travelled to support "best friends" Jack and Emma Harvey, who are two of the eight Bermuda athletes to qualify for these Olympics.

Jack swims this morning in the 100m backstroke (10:43 BST). Watch out for Britain's rising star Ollie Morgan in that one too.
