"One engine, one machine" has been the philosophy behind the British men's eights domination of the event in recent years.

One last push to add the Olympic title to the world and European titles they hold.

One last big effort to win Britain's third gold of the rowing competition.

Every single crew on that podium should be thrilled!

Every single woman on the Romanian team has already raced this week, so they came here as one of the only crews that has raced every single day. To dominate an eights race by a full chunk of water, full respect to them.

Romania love to lead out from the front. They love a fast-paced start and Canada went with them and you can almost hide alongside the lead boat away from the rest of the field.

We thought Britain were getting into competition with the Americans but they finished off the USA relatively quickly in that run - so it was a dramatic race!

The Romanians today, you have got to hand it to them as they went out fast. They have been doubling up all week and now they have won the biggest of all events.

It is a huge result for GB. In terms of the form book you would say GB would come second or third.

This is only the second medal ever in this event. They have put GB back on the map in these big boats.

I’ve just left the archery and stumbled across this, something going on here?

Expectant fans are starting to line the roads as they prepare to wave off the peloton for the men’s road race, who begin their 273km journey further down the Seine at Trocadero before heading off into the French countryside.

Just here by Les Invalides and the Pont Alexandre III there are all sorts of flags waving - Italy, Germany and Great Britain - as fans hope to glance their riders whizzing past.

Cheers at this start point are sure to help give the riders a boost at this early stage as they get on their way on what is turning out to be a pretty warm day.

Men's road race set to be 'very unpredictable'published at 10:02 British Summer Time 3 August

Road cycling - men's road race final

    Chris Boardman
Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

I think this is probably the best finish line that I have ever seen in my 20 years doing this!

There is 10,000 feet of climbing over the course of the race and it is spread over the course of the race, not backloaded. It is going to be attritional!

We are starting with only 90 riders which is not the usual thing for the riders taking part here - it is almost half of a Tour de France field. It is also going to be whittled down about 50 riders really quickly. So it is going to be an interesting race.

All of those conditions mixed up means that it is going to be a very unpredictable race.
