How is dressage scored?published at 09:42 British Summer Time 3 August

    Equestrian - dressage team final

    Katie Falkingham
    BBC Sport in Paris

There are 10 teams in today's Grand Prix Special, or team dressage final. Each team is made up of three rider-horse combinations.

They are split into three groups, with a combination from each nation in each group.

Each combination performs a set test. Judges score each movement out of 10. The scores are added up and combined with more marks for the riders' seat and aids.

That score is then converted to an overall percentage. The team with the highest overall combined total wins.

    Decathlon

Defending champion Damian Warner has moved into the lead in the decathlon after a strong run in the 110m hurdles.

The 34-year-old Canadian won his heat in 13.62 seconds - the best time of the morning - to jump from fourth to first in the overall standings on 5585 points.

Germany's Leo Neugebauer started the day in first but finished fifth in his heat, clocking 14.51, and drops into the bronze medal position.

Ayden Owens-Delerme of Puerto Rico's time of 14.09 is enough for him to stay in second.

On to day two of athletics at the Stade de France and no change in the infectious energy being channelled from the stands down towards the purple track.

French decathlete Makenson Gletty is back at it again, soaking up the atmosphere and sending home fans into a frenzy with his heroic efforts - this time in the 110m hurdles.

There is, of course, a buzz of anticipation to my left where the men's pole vault is under way, which means a certain Mondo Duplantis has arrived - and so too the promise that he could set yet another world record here.

The Swedish star is yet to enter the competition but you'll know when he does!

Megan Havers got off to a really solid start but it was always going to be a tough task against South Korea's Lim Sihyeon, who has already won two gold medals in the team events in Paris and is one of the favourites to medal in the singles.

Still a brilliant achievement for 16-year-old Havers, the youngest archer at the Games. She is the only person to take a point off Lim at these games.

A quick reminder of how it all works. Best of five sets, three arrows each per set and the archer with the highest score takes the set. It's that simple really.

The archers fire at the board from a distance of 70m, that's approximately three tennis courts/a flipping long way.

The middle point is worth the most points - 10 - and it's roughly the size of a CD.

Two points are awarded for winning the set, one for a draw and zero for a loss.

Speaking of that golden day for Team GB yesterday...

Great Britain won Olympic team jumping gold for the first time since London 2012 with a near-faultless performance in Paris.

The British trio of Ben Maher, Harry Charles and Scott Brash picked up just two time penalties to top the standings at the stunning Chateau de Versailles, with the United States second and France in third.

Their medal comes 12 years after Maher, Brash and Charles' father Peter won team jumping gold at the London Olympics alongside Nick Skelton - 60 years after Great Britain's previous gold in the event in Helsinki in 1952.

Charles had just turned 13 when his father stood atop the Olympic podium but now joins him in the history books.

The first gold medal of the day has been won in shooting - and in dramatic fashion.

France have never won an Olympic gold medal in shooting, so there was immense home excitement on the range as French shooter Camille Jedrzejewski faced off against South Korea's Yang Ji-in in the final round.

Both started the final round on 33, and both hit the target four times in that series to require a five-round shoot-off for gold.

There the pressure got to Jedrzejewski as she missed her first three shots, with Yang winning the shoot-off 4-1 to seal Korea's eighth gold of the Games, lifting them above Japan to sixth in the medal table.

    Hungary's Veronika Mayor took bronze.

What is happening at the athletics today?published at 09:04 British Summer Time 3 August

It's day two of the track and field events and, just like yesterday, it starts with the decathlon any moment now - and you can watch it live on BBC iPlayer and the red button.

First up for them today is the 110m hurdles. Germany's Leo Neugebauer currently leads the way on 4650 points, with defending champion Damian Warner of Canada on 4561 in fourth.

The morning session at the Stade de France also sees the men's pole vault qualification, the women's 800m repechage and the decathletes swiftly move to the discus.

Perhaps the biggest draw this morning, though, is the start of the men's 100m.

Jeremiah Azu, Louie Hinchliffe and Zharnel Hughes will all hope to make it through from the heats for Team GB.

Team USA star Noah Lyles, who is promising big things at these Games, will also make his first appearance in Paris.
