France's campaign ends in heartbreak, the host nation have just fallen to a 1-0 quarter-final loss to Brazil in Nantes.

Striker Gabi Portilho poked home an 82nd-minute winner to help the South American champions to a 1-0 win.

Victory potentially extends the international career of Brazil's all-time leading goalscorer Marta.

The two-time Olympic silver medallist was suspended for the last-eight match after being sent off in Brazil's final group match.

The 38-year-old will retire from international football this year.

Brazil will face Spain in their semi-final on Tuesday (20:00 BST) after the world champions beat Colombia 4-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw.

Tuesday's other semi-final will have Emma Hayes' USA facing Germany (17:00 BST).

What a day of Olympic action. It's hard to sum it all up but here are some of the headlines:

To go to an Olympic final, you've got to be beyond elite level. You've got to be the best of the best.

Make no mistake, Kellie Harrington was asked all sorts of questions in that bout, [Beatriz] Ferreira was brilliant in the second round and in the first half of that third round you could make a very strong case to say the Brazilian was going through.

But then, a big push was needed and Harrington dug deep into her soul to find what was needed.

Julien Alfred's gold is huge for St Lucia. On this global stage athletes such as Alfred go back home and they become huge superstars because they have represented their country so well and have put it on the map, on a global stage in sport. You want to have that sort of representation.

It is so tough in team sports like football or basketball for these small countries to do well, but at the Olympics you can have one athlete come out here, be the best and show that the country can produce great athletes.

Boxing expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

Kellie Harrington has found an extra gear to save her dream, to save Ireland's dream.

This is unbelievable, absolute quality, absolute class. What a privilege to be here.

I thought Beatriz Ferreira had a great minute and a bit in the third round.

Harrington had a masterclass in the first round and the second and then in the last minute of that third round she went beyond the masterclass, she showed why she is the best female boxer in the world, one of the greatest Olympic boxers at the moment.

That was an absolute masterclass, one of the finest fights I have ever seen at an Olympic games.

Kellie Harrington and Beatriz Ferreira is the draw of death.

It's absolutely ridiculous that they are in the same side of the draw.

It is unbelievably poised for the third round, they can both steal it.

We might have witnessed there the best round of women's boxing inside the Olympic movement. That was absolutely stunning.

Summer McIntosh speaking to BBC TV after winning gold in the women's 200m individual medley: "Literally I cannot be happier right now. Going into tonight I knew it was going to be a very, very close race and the other girls were going to put up an amazing fight, but I really just trusted my training. I knew I was going to be behind going into the last 50m but I just gave it my all and left everything I had in the pool."

On the final 50m: "For sure it was painful. Winning gets rid of all the pain. I was screaming at myself under water a few times because I could tell that I was behind. I knew that I just had to keep going and pushing in those last ten metres. I just had to push through that wall.

"I am so proud of myself and so proud of team Canada tonight, Josh [Liendo] and Ilya [Kharun] also on the podium tonight. That was absolutely incredible and it gave me so much motivation and got me super hyped for my race. To see what team Canada has done in these past eight days is amazing but we are not done yet. One more final session tomorrow that we are really excited for."

Italian Lorenzo Musetti is the men's Olympic bronze medallist.

Musetti took a tight opening set 6-4, before Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime emphatically won the second 6-1.

The Italian took a comfort break after that second set and looked re-energised early in the third.

After missing break points midway through the deciding set, he finally took his opportunity to give himself the chance to serve for the match.

A backhand sliced dropshot did the trick on match point and he fell to the clay as he took in what he had achieved.

From the gymnastics to the boxing, Kellie Harrington will look to continue where Rhys McClenaghan left off this evening.

She's already secured a medal, but will want to move one step closer to retaining that Olympic title.

On the whole, it's been a poor Games for Ireland's 10 boxers, and Harrington is the last one standing.

She faces a bit of a grudge match against Beatriz Ferreira of Brazil, who she beat in the final in Tokyo three years ago and the Irish support are out in numbers to try and help her over the line.
