The silver medallist in the 200m free advances in the 100m free.

Although it was a little more nervy than we may have thought.

A 48.40 sees him qualify 13th fastest for the semi-finals tonight.

    But still, job done.

Richards qualifies, Whittle narrowly misses outpublished at 10:57 British Summer Time 30 July

    100m freestyle

The men's 100m freestyle heats have now finished, where the top 16 fastest times all qualify for the semi-finals.

Matt Richards, who won silver in the 200m freestyle, has narrowly advanced into the 100m semi-finals with a time of 48.40, finishing inside the slowest qualifying time of 48.41 by one hundredth of a second.

It's heartbreak, however, for fellow Brit Jacob Whittle. His qualifying time of 48.47 was not enough for a place in today's semi-finals. Whittle finished 18th in qualifying.

Matt Richards missed out on gold to Romania's David Popovici by just 0.02 seconds last night. The young duo are likely to do battle again in the men's 100m free.

Although he was quick to congratulate Popovici, Richards said his agonising silver last night 'added fuel to fire' for that event.

He added that the Romanian "best believe I’ll be trying to make it right on that."

France's poster boy of the Games, swimmer Leon Marchand, has unsurprisingly qualified pretty easily for the men's 200m butterfly semi-final - he finished second in his heat, qualifying in sixth place with a time of 1:55.26.

Marchand already has one gold with his comprehensive victory in the 400m individual medley.

The 22-year-old is a big crowd favourite and is aiming for Olympic history: no swimmer has ever reached the podium in both breaststroke and butterfly events. Marchand’s 200m breaststroke heat starts in roughly two hours' time!

NBA star Antetokounmpo aims for first Olympic winpublished at 10:39 British Summer Time 30 July

    Men's basketball

It was an emotional night for Giannis Antetokounmpo as he helped Greece qualify for the Olympics earlier this month and the NBA star was then selected to be the flagbearer for Greece during the opening ceremony.

The NBA's two-time Most Valuable Player scored a game-high 34 points on his Olympic debut against Canada, although that was not enough to stop Greece starting their group campaign with an 86-79 loss.

They're back in action right now on iPlayer against European champions Spain, who lost their opener to Australia, and the 'Greek Freak' has helped his side into a 22-21 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who was runner-up in the voting for this season's MVP award, will lead Canada again later as they take on Australia in today's other Group A game (12:30 BST).

Last, but by no means least, the GB quartet of James Guy, Jack McMillan, Tom Dean and Kieran Bird will be in the 4x200m freestyle relay heat.

What music do they use in dressage?published at 10:33 British Summer Time 30 July

Often fondly described as ‘dancing horses’, dressage involves a rider guiding their horse through a roughly seven-minute long routine set to music.

Two of the top teams fighting it out for medals will be Great Britain and Germany. At London 2012, Team GB ended Germany’s dominance of the team dressage when they won gold. Aside from the Moscow Olympics in 1980 (boycotted by 65 nations, including Germany), Germany had won the event at every other Olympics since 1976. They came back to win gold in both 2016 and 2020, with Great Britain securing silver and bronze respectively.

Music plays an integral role in sports like dressage and gymnastics, with athletes and horses marked on how well they match their movements to the chosen songs. A great deal of thought and attention goes into making the perfect selection. BBC Bitesize takes a look at which songs and artists will provide the backing tracks to some incredible sport in Paris this summer - read all about it here.

  10. How does dressage work?published at 10:30 British Summer Time 30 July

Dressage - individual and team Grand Prix

    Amy Lofthouse
    BBC Sport in Paris

For dressage novices, this is a - very brief - overview of how it works.

There are 60 athletes, split into groups of 10, who will compete over the next two days. That will decide who competes in the individual and team grands prix later in the week - 18 qualify for the individual, while the top 10 teams go through to the team final.

Riders perform a set test, with judges marking each of the movements out of 10.

Those scores are then added up and combined with additional marks for the riders’ seat and aids, which gives an overall percentage total.

Bonjour! On the way to what will be, like the rest of Paris, a sticky Roland Garros.

British men's number one Jack Draper plays his second-round match against American seventh seed Taylor Fritz at 11:00 BST.

That starts the action on Court Suzanne Lenglen, which is the second show-court and has quite the box office line-up today.

Following Draper are matches featuring Italian Wimbledon finalist Jasmine Paolini, Spanish doubles dream team Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz, then British heroes Andy Murray and Dan Evans.

It could, of course, be the final match of Murray's storied career.

We thought it was all over for the former world number one on Sunday - then him and Evans saved FIVE match points to win their opening match.

Elsewhere, British pair Katie Boulter and Heather Watson play in the women's doubles, Watson and Joe Salisbury start in the mixed, while Coco Gauff, Alexander Zverev, Iga Swiatek and Daniil Medvedev headline the singles matches on Court Philippe Chatrier.
