Freya Colbert's position as reigning world champion is slightly misleading because many of her big rivals did not compete.

She is a very strong freestyler so expect her to come through on the final leg.

It's about staying in touch until then.

It is one of the most painful events. Tactically you have to be on your game but physically it hurts so much. Starting on butterfly you are tired, backstroke your legs kill, breaststroke, well I just went backwards. Then by the time that you are on front crawl you just want to swim down.

Ireland's Ellen Walshe has just made her walk to the side of the pool and is welcomed by some fans waving the the tricolour.

Can anyone prevent world record holder Summer McIntosh of Canada from taking gold?

It just goes in peaks and troughs. We were hit really hard by Covid, whereas Australia and America for example have more outdoor training pools. We've got some good younger swimmers coming through.

I don't know if it's just me, or whether it's the absence of home favourite Leon Marchand who created a raucous atmosphere last night, but it feels a bit quieter in La Defense tonight.

Summer McIntosh may not be a name many know but she could ramp it up.

The 17-year-old Canadian is 10 seconds faster than anyone in the world this year in the 400m medley and broke the world record in 2023.

Can Britain's world champion Freya Colbert or Katie Shanahan keep up in the this first race for gold?

    Gymnastics - men's team final

    Beth Tweddle
London 2012 bronze medallist on BBC TV

Team GB can be very proud of themselves. It is 18 routines that we are asking for, which is tough. It was not down to one error, they were a couple of marks behind in the end. It was always going to be a tough challenge to get a medal and they have still got lots of individual and the women's final to come.

Slightly awkward moment after the first fight when a visibly upset Donjeta Sakidu tried to storm out of the arena with a towel over her head.

She was meant to let her opponent - and the winner - Angie Paola Valdes Pana leave first, which meant two men desperately tried to stop her as she walked out.

She was having none of it. Still, the Colombia support team in front of me were delighted with their athletes effort.

The lights have gone out at La Defense Arena which means it's almost time for tonight's swimming.

Great Britain's big two chances of medals are in the first two races.

First Freya Colbert looks to get herself on the podium in the 400m medley. That will be tough.

Then Duncan Scott, who has six Olympic medals but no individual gold, enters the 200m freestyle as the second-fastest swimmer. Matt Richards will be in lane one too.

'Just not quite good enough from Team GB'published at 19:15 British Summer Time 29 July

    Gymnastics - men's team final

    Craig Heap
Commonwealth Games gold-winning gymnast on BBC TV

The top three teams performed out of their skin, it just wasn't quite good enough from Team GB today. The USA have often come to games and had near misses but they won bronze at the World Championships and have matched that here. They raised the bar from qualification to the final.

The tension in this arena is unbearable. USA are celebrating - they think they've won a medal. Japan are celebrating - they think they've pipped China at the death. And China, who may have just thrown it all away, still have one gymnast to perform on high bar.

It just shows what the pressure is for everyone here. There was a slight moment at the start where Weide Su almost put his hand on the bar incorrectly.

He did the very difficult moves but he did not get the grip twice and he fell. That could be really quite costly for China.

Such drama here. This is true sport at it's very best. So unpredictable.
