    Swimming - women's 400m individual medley

Summer McIntosh took silver in the 400m freestyle on Saturday but the 17-year-old now has a gold medal around her neck as she stands on the podium with the Canadian national anthem ringing around the Paris La Defense Arena.

McIntosh was some way off her own world record time but a lack of competition around her possibly played a part as she flew clear for victory.

Pretty much all of the Olympic venues have a bit where you can try the sport out for yourself.

It might not be a surprise that people were queueing up to have a bash at the boxing a little earlier.

That was absolutely incredible, for all his life Matt Richards looked like he was slowing down in the last 15m but he just found something. Popovici has a bemused look on his face - he doesn’t know what happened in that race, it was just bonkers.

Such a tight race. I think David Popovici thought he had lost it there, when he went through the turn he just had to dig deep. Matt Richards had an excellent race, did everything he could have done, lost out at the very last.

    On we go then...

Matt Richards was probably the more fancied British freestyler coming into this. He won the race at the British trials at least.

He finds himself out in the choppy waters of lane one. Duncan Scott will be right in the middle.

Freya Colbert looked so good up to the 350m but the Americans are so good at the end - they know how to get races done, they do so much in their college programmes.

But just a nod to Summer McIntosh, a superstar already – she is just so versatile, she had no weak leg.

It could be a special night in the pool for Matt Richards, as the 2023 world champion goes for gold in the men's 200m freestyle final.

I spoke to his parents, Amanda and Simon, ahead of tonight's race. They're delighted to be here after being forced to watch his relay gold in Tokyo from their lounge.

They told me he is 'calm and composed', determined to win his first individual Olympic medal. And they don't think being in an outside lane will harm his chances.

Not long until we find out.
