Wigan Warriors head coach Shaun Wane has hit out at his side's performance in their derby loss to St Helens.

The Warriors led 10-8 at half-time, but conceded three tries after the break as they made a series of errors.

Asked how bad the performance was, 50-year-old Wane told BBC Radio Manchester: "Awful.

"Really disappointing that they didn't get to see anything we could do. We just didn't throw enough at them and we made so many errors."

Wigan could have moved to the top of Super League if they had won at Langtree Park, but instead remained third, three points behind leaders Saints.

When he was asked if he blamed himself in any way, Wane responded: "Yes and I'm going to look at what we've done in training and the game plan.

"There will be changes, but that was in my mind before the game anyway.

"We had two big games and a five-day turnaround, they had seven days so there are reasons for that performance.

"But when you couple that with 10 penalties and so many errors, you've just not a chance to win the game."
