Super League: Catalans Dragons 18-16 Hull KR

Lewis Tierney moved to Catalans Dragons on a two-year deal in October having previously feature for the club on loan from Wigan

Catalans Dragons earned their first Super League win of the season at the fifth attempt as they edged out Hull KR in a tense affair in Perpignan.

Lewis Tierney's first-half try was cancelled out by George Lawler's effort as scores were locked 8-8 at the break.

Ryan Shaw then edged Rovers ahead with his third kick, before Lucas Albert slotted two penalties to make it 12-10.

Albert won it with a late penalty after Justin Carney made it 16-16 following Fouad Yaha's touchdown for Dragons.

The victory ended a miserable start to the campaign by the French club, who only secured their top-flight status last season by beating Leigh in the Million Pound play-off game.

Tim Sheens' Rovers side were among the four to beat the Dragons this season, but that home win three weeks ago remains their only one since winning promotion back to Super League.

And a lack of discipline proved costly on their visit to Stade Brutus as Albert kicked Steve McNamara's side to victory.

Catalans Dragons coach Steve McNamara:

"For me, that wasn't our best performance of the season at home for us, but it's the only one we have won.

"In my opinion, we were better against St Helens and Wakefield in our previous two games but unfortunately we couldn't come away with the two points on those occasions.

"I've always said that you win games with a great defence and we had a good defence. If you look at both sides, there were only four tries scored throughout the game and the rest of the points were kicks at goal."

Hull KR boss Tim Sheens told BBC Radio Humberside:

"I'm not blaming an official for the loss of the game, but we lost the game by two (points) and a particular penalty in the second half was very ordinary and in fact wrong in my opinion.

"I'm sure I'll be backed up by the RFL when ring them.

"But we had our chances, and with 10 minutes to go we panicked. There just wasn't enough composure and so we are filthy with ourselves. I'm not filthy with the players; I think the effort was great.

"It's a tough trip and I'm just disappointed in the fact that the boys had the chance to win that game and a couple of calls and some of their own errors (cost us)."
