Hull KR head coach Willie Peters told BBC One that his side was simply overcome by a side that continues to show the way in the English game.

"I thought my players did their best, we were just beaten by a better team today," he said.

"Wigan is the benchmark. I was upset with a few calls, without a doubt, but we certainly got beat by a better team today.

"Last year we got beaten in the final and we came back from that, and we will do the same now.

    FT: Hull KR 6-38 Wigan

Wigan half-back Harry Smith, who was named player of the match, speaking to BBC One:

"We got to the final two years ago at Tottenham and we've talked about that special feeling of Wembley, the nostalgia and the history of it. I'm buzzing for everyone - the town, the team, the staff, everyone.

"We knew we had to start well, they beat us a few weeks ago when we were well off it and they came out to play. We knew they'd do that again and we knew we had to be at our best to win. We did that, especially in the first half, I thought we were outstanding. It's hard to see out games like that sometimes so I'm happy with the result in the end."

  5. 'Sticking it to Hull KR'published at 15:53 British Summer Time 18 May

    FT: Hull KR 6-38 Wigan

Warriors full-back Jai Field told BBC One that their recent Super League defeat by Hull KR helped drive their big win today.

"Defence was a big focus, we dipped our toe in a bit down there a couple of weeks ago and got beat to the punch [in their Super League loss to Rovers] so it was a big effort today to try to stick it to them," he said.

"Our away fans have been unreal this year, with that behind you it really gets your home."

Joe Burgess leapt from about 5m out, and it's gravity-defying attempt to touchdown.

The on-field call was no try, and there just wasn't enough evidence to overturn that call as he reached over the try line.

It would have been special. What Burgess does have, is a sore head after he was clattered by Jai Field as he came in with a desperate tackle.

The biggest compliment you can pay Wigan today is nobody's been flash. Everybody's played their part, been in unison, known their roles and managed to execute at the right time.

Their precision and execution at the right time has been exemplary, along with all of those effort areas that we've seen.

So that's two tries each for Jake Wardle and Abbas Miski. I'd fancy both for a hat-trick at this rate.
