    Leeds 14-6 St Helens

Jonny Lomax's pass to the onrushing Harry Robertson bounces off the St Helens centre and Leeds regain the ball.

So much for whatever prospective St Helens fightback could have mustered in this second half.

Leeds are in no mood to relinquish what they hold - which is an eight-point lead.

    Challenge unsuccessful.

It's gone upstairs and Ryan Hall is judged to have been the maker of his own knock on.

St Helens are 30 metres out at the scrum that follows.

Ryan Hall knocks on but Leeds are challenging the call.

The rate we're going, this game isn't going to end before 10pm, is it?

    Leeds 14-6 St Helens

Leeds' Kallum Watkins knocks on. I've lost count of how many knock ons we've had in this eliminator, to be honest.

Just over 10 minutes remaining and Leeds are still in control. St Helens need something magic. And now.

Been to watch York (only just) beat Halifax this evening, can't understand why Whitby isn't in the Saints team?

    Leeds 14-6 St Helens

St Helens' Curtis Sironen and James McDonnell have a bit of a disagreement - to put it mildly - and there's some afters.

TV replays show that Sironen put his hand into the face of McDonnell while the latter puts an elbow in on the former.

The referee calls the captains over and tells them to calm the game down.

Although eight points isn't a massive margin, the effectiveness of the Saints attack makes it a little bit bigger.

They have struggled to stretch this Leeds defence who have been aggressive, pretty well structured and even in scramble mode have come up with last-ditch tackles.

    Leeds 14-6 St Helens

To be honest, I don't get the impression Hull KR boss Willie Peters is going to be too worried about facing either of these sides next week.

    It's a game that's mostly - James McDonnell's try aside - lacked a lot of quality.

  10. PENALTY: Leeds 14-6 St Helenspublished at 64 mins

    Jake Connor

Leeds do go for the two and Jake Connor makes no mistake right in front of the posts.

That could have just about done it for Leeds, here.

St Helens have around 15 minutes to score twice. And on the evidence we've seen so far, who knows whether they'll be able to do that.

    Leeds 12-6 St Helens

Leeds win a penalty after Moses Mbye goes in high on Jake Connor.

You'd think they'll go for the two given they're around 20-ish metres out.

Jake Connor pushes Jon Bennison into touchImage source, SWPix.com

It's the first time St Helens have got around the Leeds defence but Jake Connor read the play superbly and just got enough on the winger to push him over the sidelines as he was just about to leap into the air to try to get one of those one-handed put-downs.

    Leeds 12-6 St Helens

    Great Leeds defence!

Jake Connor puts in a try-saving tackle to nudge Jon Bennison into touch before he can run in at the corner.

Is that St Helens' chance gone? What a way for Connor to make up for his mis-hit kick just now!

    Leeds 12-6 St Helens

    Oof, oh dear.

Jake Connor attempts a 40-20 kick but the Leeds man horribly misjudges it and it sails out on the full.

Can Saints finally take advantage of some field territory for once?

It's Leeds who are looking a little bit jaded now.

    Leeds 12-6 St Helens

There's a bit of a flat atmosphere at the minute which isn't a surprise because it's been a pretty flat, error-strewn second period so far.

St Helens, for what it's worth, have had a better five minutes or so than they've had for quite a while.

But despite having Leeds well pegged back in their own half, they can't take advantage.

    Leeds 12-6 St Helens

St Helens are almost through thanks to a slick set of passes in the Leeds half of the field but they're held up for obstruction and concede a penalty.

    Wasteful.

Lachie Miller does well to catch a high ball before the onrushing Tristan Sailor can get to him.

Leeds begin their set deep in their own 10. Is this the beginning of the St Helens turnaround?

  19. Postpublished at 52 mins

Mark Percival leaps high to regain the ball for St Helens before Leeds' Harry Newman gets to it.

Saints need to get a foothold in this game now before it gets ahead of them.

    Leeds 12-6 St Helens

    Robbie Hunter-Paul

Leeds are building pressure, not overplaying, just trying to put the St Helens defence on the back foot and take that energy out of them.
